Hi guys

My laptop has 3 partitions (see pic) on its 640gb drive. A 25gb drive that I presume was for system restoration (I formatted it because I need the space) and the other 2 partitions. Now I would like to merge the C: drive with the 25gb partition but Windows isn't allowing me to do it. What 3rd party software would you recommend? Or how should I go about doing it?

Shot :)

It can be done.. But you'd need to delete the third partition ( I assume it's your D: ) you have in order to do it...

Should never have deleted your system restore partition =/ Hope you have backup disks in case your lappy goes bang

Pending the os, partition ect you can extent, make smaller ect via windows computer management console.A alternative is via your windows vista or windows 7 setup disk, if I remember correctly, but generally it won't allow to extent the boot partition, from what I remember, I think.

or try

MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition

The issue is if you mess around with either method, it may extent the partition, but wipe the data in the process, so use with caution and at your own risk.

Also the hidden 100MB partition, leave that one alone, it was created by windows, and forms part of the boot ;)

I have used Partition Magic a few times to achieve what you want.

Basically you install it, run it. Configure the expansion/reduction parameters - i.e. specify what you want done. Restart the machine and prior to it rebooting, Partition Magic kicks in and does a funky boot during which it executes. After it is done the additional space will be allocated to the nominated drive.

It's easy and pain free and I am yet to lose data in the process.

Thanks for the help guys, I will give MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition a try now and let you know what happens.

Ok so it turns out that Windows REALLY doesn't like expanding partitions to the left. But, thanks to MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition I managed to do it. I deleted my D: partition and then dragged my C partition to the left by 25gbs. Took about 15 mins to complete but it has done it. Not time to reformat my D partition and copy all of my crap back onto it.

Thanks for the help guys!
