Bikers!?

This thread is waaaaay too quiet. Let's stir her up a bit.

The bike fever as me in a death grip, and all I see and dream are bikes. That being said, I desire a 'pure' superbike. Think R1, GSXR1000 or Panigale.

I LOVE the Panigale. Since @Wacko_ZA let me go for a short ride on his v4s I can't get the feeling out of my bones.

If you were in my shoes, what would you buy and why? I am on the verge of spilling the beans and buying a Ducati Panigale V2.

Fourways BMW has a beautiful 1199 for R200k - Not sure about milage or year.
Made @D3TTOL drool like a horny 13year old in a girls sorority, so you should like it as well.

I had no desire to really own a Ducati. They are gorgeous bikes, don't get me wrong. There was just never that feeling. Until I fired that damn v4s up. It's out of this world. I obviously lack a ton of experience, and all I've really ridden was a R6, RR, a few GSs and ktm 1190s... But that Panigale swept me off my feet.

I don't know if I should first 'go through the motions' before going end game. Am I doing myself a disservice?

Seeing that you ride a S1000r, you are no newbie. So as long as you have some sense you should survive physically.

Don't fool yourself by telling yourself that is the endgame though, you will always want a stronger bike.
It's a rule. You will eventually get "used" to the power, if you don't - You're not using all the power, so you're wasting it.

Just my 2c though.

I hear you. I still have a lot to learn about cornering though. Looking forward to my first track day, just need to sort out a few things. So I am still far away from using all the power and capability of the S1R, especially when it comes to cornering.

Let's dream for a moment, and I buy a V4S. Am I missing something by not spending a few years driving 'lesser' bikes? Just scared for that 'now what?' moment if that makes sense. :ROFLMAO:

Not really missing much. I would say you're gaining. By the time you would eventually upgrade, there will be "better" bikes on the market than the current performance leaders.
Can never go wrong by not spending money.

This is exactly what I meant by saying "Never enough power"
I've only owned 4 bikes over the last three years :ROFLMAO:

More power is only relevant if you're one of those guys who want to do highway runs as 300+ or smash robot to robot with a 1290.
You don't need a lot of power at all, you need a bike that can corner well and some track exp. then you get to use all the power and its an insane rush.

So what you're saying is I should definitely buy a the V4S? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Only so i can also ride it. then yes if no.. I'm telling your wife (GF, Future wife-even if she isn't in the picture yet #FutureDoom).
Nah I wish. Can't justify the price tag at this point in time. But the V2, or a used 1190... Hmmmm.

I was deciding to upgrade recently from my 390 to the 790 this year. well... 3 months after my warranty expired. Riding through to Pretoria down the n1, sudden loss of power, wonderful noise of metal getting thrown everywhere and now I'm stuck with this.

Geez Bru, that's some terrible news.

Insured?.. Probably a wrote off.

10.8K odo only.. Whoa
Who was it serviced by?
Did it overheat as I know 390 have a tendency to do that.

First of all its a 1299. sheesh brah.
Dis exact one. See the numbers?

I originally went to test ride a R1250RS and they didn't have one but they did have a 1299 panigale and I obviously had to have a go.
It's uncomfortable as hell, My short test ride already made my wrists sore and it was 15 minutes or so. Secondly the engine is rough low down.
The engine though.... fck me I was hitting 290 kph in 5th, that's where my balls started to disappear and I backed off. It got there easily as well.
I was giggling the entire time and I was seriously going to trade my BMW for it, though I owed too much on my bmw for it to work out.
But it's probably a good thing that I didn't as my bike is soo much more comfortable and easier to ride. Might still end up with a KTM 1290 SuperDuke in a year or two. Vtwin power is insane.

So I have good, or bad news, depending on how well you know me.
I can legally ride my bike again :D
Now to wait for the rona to fuck off so I can get my license sorted.

Shit man, thats gotta suck.

Something something... apple of motorcycle world...

Then again I had to pay R6k for a replacement gear lever and traction control paddles + shipping & import tax for my Aprilia end last year so I can't really speak either.

Okay okay, By no means am I a super experienced when it comes to racing on a track. I have done a couple track days and they were fun but it's definitely all about your ability to ride and not the bike.
Quite a while back I went to a training day and some instructors teach you how to turn, break etc.
I was on a SV 650 at the time and the instructors were riding BMW F650s and they were casually passing absolutely everyone on that track. Granted now I think they would not be able to keep up at all on a F650 xD but I'm sure if you put those same people on a Triumph 675 or something similar they would be a challange for me on my S1000R.

In short, you can buy a 150kw+ motorcycle but it won't make you a faster rider, you'll still ride within your limits.

Raceworx KTM are the one's who did the last service. Yeah apparently is was running dry on oil and overheating was the cause of everything going to shit. I call bullshit, going to try fight it but for now I'm honestly biting the bullet and getting it up and running again. My Joburg to Pretoria ride is beyond shit in the car every morning and evening.

that must be a hard pill to swallow!
what is the cause? crank failure?

Ran dry. No oil but display showed absolutely no signs of oil running low. Something suspicious here. Will get more answers later in the week.
