Yesterday we arranged to trade my TV for his monitor. We met up, traded and went our separate ways. I got home, switched the monitor.. everything looks fine and tell him I'm happy and that it helped me a lot. I didn't have time to play games ect as I still needed to get back to my sauces. Later last night I load into my first game... everything is dark. I played with settings in game but nothing. I play with some settings in Windows and nothing. I contact @Hexate and let him know the problems. After some troubleshooting I found that monitor was on text mode and switched it to game mode and a big improvement. I switch pc off and go to bed. This morning I switched the monitor on and was greeted with horrible lines all over the screen but disappeared within a minute or two. When I logged into a different game(Squad) this morning the black of the screen is completely dark and in-game the black flickers when you run through Forrest ect. So safe to assume there are some issues with said monitor. I contact @Hexate and suggest that we trade back. He then wants me to refund him R450 because he lost out on another deal when I first said I was I was happy with the monitor. Firstly the faulty monitor that he traded me has nothing to do with other deals on carb. And even asking me to pay R450 for another deal when you failed to mention the defects of the monitor is just pure scummy thing to do. I have told @Hexate he can keep the TV as I want no future dealings with such a person
 
I never asked for a refund or any sort of monetary reimbursement to trade back the two products. The other product was also not a carb deal, it was returned to Incredible connection where I lost R450 for their 'handling fee". I gave back an apple TV to IC, because @Phokkit said he was happy with the monitor assuming he tested it properly, as it was no longer needed since I had the TV. I returned it after he confirmed he was happy with the monitor and not straight away. The monitor had no issues when I used it. I said that I lost R450 after he confirmed it was fine and that me losing R450 and then trading back the products isn't fair IMO. That is all I said to him. Just assuming I want money, and saying I asked for it when I didn't, and then I'll just trade back isn't right either.
 
You kept on hammering on the R450..why is that? Why bring up money when it's not what you wanted? You had no concern over the faulty screen and only the R450..dont play games please
Note that I only told him I'm happy and he is happy at 6pm last night. So not sure how he returned his TV after that. And then informed him on 8:30pm of the problems
 
Please note I have tested the monitor on the igpu to same problem. I've tried the monitor on a different system and also dark..just to clarify that it's not a GPU or pc fault. As I tested another monitor on my system now and works 💯 I can safely say I've tried everything that I can possibly do. I've gotten in touch with Mustek and explained my situation. They say it's a failing panel and only way to fix is panel replacement, which would be a problem as there is a panel shortage
Also I do have pics of the lines of this morning's startup
And according to @Hexate when he handed the monitor to me it wasn't like this. So I just have the luck of a monitor panel dying on me as soon as I took ownership of it. As I said I don't care about the TV. When I brought up that I wanted to return the faulty monitor the conversation only went about R450 and it's not fair how he lost out on it and what am I going to do about it. Nothing about how we are going to sort this monitor out that just magically just started dying when I took ownership of it. It just shows where his priorities lies.

I mentioned the amount of R450 twice… once when I informed you of what happened at incredible connection and the second when I mentioned it not being fair that I’ll lose that amount when we swap. As for confirming the monitor is fine, that message was sent at 16:41, IC closes at 19:00.

In terms of the lines, they didn’t show the first time you used the monitor but only started magically showing the following morning? I googled and tried giving advice to see if the lines could be removed. I asked how we should approach this and after being told to just swap back and that I feel it wasn’t fair, @Phokkit immediately created the bad deal thread, no other solution or questions to deal with this.

Yea I sent the message at that time..and asked you to reply if you are happy and you only replied at 6pm..that's how you conclude a deal isn't it? I'm not gonna play petty games with you. You wanted R450 and then come here and lie about it and say you don't want it but yet you keep on about it. You traded me a piece of trash that's dying and your concern is how to make more money out of me. I stand by what I say now..you know very well that this monitor was dying. There is no possible way that the monitor just magically starts dying as soon as I took ownership of it. The thing was dirty and sticky and wasn't even wiped.
Then you have the nerve to come to me and say it's not fair about the R450
You screwed me out of R4000..your R450 means nothing.
Here on carb when you sell or trade something broken you do your best to rectify it. Not wonder how you gonna get more money out of it
 
Regardless of an hour or two with messages. I had the monitor 4hrs and reported problems to you..not days or weeks ...4 hours! So don't make it as if it's days or something.
Your dealings with IC has nothing to do with a faulty monitor you traded me. It has no relevance whatsoever. No matter how you try and justify it.
You traded ME something faulty. YOU must take responsibility of it. End of story
Yea I opened the tread without going further as the conversation only went about IC and R450 and nothing else. What else is there to talk about? I'm not interested in talking about the R450 and I'm definitely not interested to offer you R450 to keep your mouth shut about it

Time to weigh in here. @Andrew_Smith ruling has been removed.

It really seems like @Hexate traded this broken monitor knowing it had issues, so @Phokkit is sitting with the problems and there's nothing he can do about it. That's not fair.

Trade deal happened, Phokkit tested found issues and told Hexate. Hexate tried to help with google links etc. But also somehow R450 got thrown in.

Without trying to carry on troubleshooting Phokkit made the bad deal. Bad deal rules state:

The Bad Deals section of the forums is to be used as a last resort, you must have made reasonable attempts to get the issue resolved before opening a new thread. It doesn't take a lot to permanently tarnish someone's reputation, and non-compliance with any of these rules may result in action being taken against you.


As both parties have agreed to disagree over the return. As far as the message trail goes in here. So Phokkit do you want to return the monitor to Hexate? and get your TV back?

Hexate, that R450 has nothing to do with Phokkit that's your own indaba for rushing to return whatever it was.

@Phokkit please send me the whatsapp chat log, as well as the monitor issue images/video. @Toxxyc will give you my whatsapp number.

I used the monitor regularly without any issues. I would not have tried to sell or swap the monitor if it had major issues as mentioned, without stating them as someone who would come test the monitor would immediately notice them and what good would that do me? Maybe it was damaged when I drove with it, maybe it was damaged when Phokkit took it home. I don't care about the R450, but now getting back a monitor with issues it didn't have before doesn't seem fair.

As a matter of interest, what cable where you using with the monitor? Do you have any proof it was working without issue?

I was using a DisplayPort cable. I have a short video of a benchmark but not in a dark scene so wouldn't show the blacks on the screen issue

As to @Hexate is only worried about himself and nothing about the fact I'm sitting with something that's faulty and he is sitting with something that was as advertised. Once again I may have been in hurry to open the bad thread and that's on me but Hexate has shown no interest as to fix things. And if he says it got damaged in transporting then he should ask himself why he loaded the monitor in his boot with no blanket or any form of protection

Also, blankets, at least the ones I own, create static which I believe isn't good for LCD monitors. Not sure what blanket you used to transport the monitor.
 
@Phokkit loaded into Squad that evening said the blacks were weird, eventually changed the screen setting to normal from "text", said that change "made a huge difference" and had no further complaints. I said "Glad its fixed" and no further comments were given about the blacks, why are they an issue again now?

Just as a random one here, @Phokkit are you using an Nvidia card, and do you by chance have output dynamic range to full?
If so, maybe try making it Limited (or if it's already Limited, make it Full)

It's an issue a few people have, like

I remember having similar issue where shadows in movies would get completely crushed because I was using a full dynamic range when my monitor didn't support it.
