Bikers!?

So the new wheels arrived yesterday afternoon. Very pleased with the overall package that the BMW has on offer.
Also switched over to full time motorcycling  .

[Side note, the Suzi repairs totaled more than 55% of the bike's value and certain shops forgot to diagnose the gearbox issue as well (claiming the bike not shifting was due to the chain and sprocket being slightly worn)]

So is this the insurance replacement?

Nice dude! Many safe miles. And hopefully this time if someone decides to take a go at you, you can fuck up their entire car with your tank of a bike.

Better never come to that, really enjoying this bike...

It is a tank, the adventure is just that much bigger when compared a standard GS LC...
Now onto some addons, more driving lights (yellow ones, need some more peripheral lighting on the bike), some new tank pads and some decals in reflective vinyl.

Enjoy! I'm not a fan of OMB, but that places me in the minority based on their sales! May you enjoy many happy and safe (s)miles on the new addition!

I see you location is the same as mine. Do you also hear some dude (or are YOU that dude) on a Triumph triple almost every morning around 05h30? Sounds like he's on Edison Crescent going to Nanyuki.

Not me, especially at 5 30 in the morning. Im on a black harley with red wheels and white wall tyres. Im by the kfc on tana road. From here I can hear bikes and car racing on VD Byl late at night.

There are more bikes on the road in this area lately.

Had a Triumph Street Triple revving the kak out of the bike this morning on Leslie, then onto William Nicol. About 7:30.

(y)(y) VD Bijl has become a racetrack! Had some twatwaffle in a GTi lose it going down the road last year, rolled & landed up on his roof sliding against the ARMCO. Dom doos took out 3 other cars with his stupidity. Paramedics & rescue were busy with the scene for nearly 3 hours. He landed right behind our wall, when I went to look the next morning in daylight there were empty Black Label quart bottles and a Johnny Red bottle lying in the debris. I'm sure insurance were told "I swerved for a dog/cat", not "I was poesdronk and driving way beyond my ability"!

The folks (be that prospective purchasers, or mechanics after "servicing") from Bikeshop also "test ride" bikes up & down VD Bijl during the day.

Wasn't my son! He has mechanical sympathy! Also way too late, he's at work already by that time! 😇

There's the very distinctive sound of a large triple (so 955/1050/1200 I'd guess) almost every morning around 05h30. I'm thinking the rider lives somewhere around Edison Crescent.
It's a rather lovely sound to hear whilst having a coffee at that time of the morning! (y):ROFLMAO:

What are your recommendations for tyre's for a Duke 390? I only use it for commuting highway speeds along the way and where in Cape Town can I get them looking for longevity and wet grip since we're going into winter.

Thanks for all the help guys! I just got the bike. I ended up getting a Scorpion helmet because the fit was better.
I had one of those for a good long while. Damn good engine. Does surprisingly well on a casual track day.

I rode with a snapped throttle cable once as well and had to jam my hand into the side to physically pull the accelerator cable... Good ol memories.

Congrats man! That blue looks great. Just a small headsup, just check the year of manufacture on those tires for peace of mind.

You won't regret the scorpion helmet! They are fantastic.

Ah, you haven't lived if you haven't ridden a bike by pulling a throttle cable by the hair. 😆

At uni I had a green Jonway 125 scooter. Cable snapped close to the throttle body, so I couldn't reach it while holding onto the bars. So after a jol we were pap gesuip, and my friend steered and braked while I did the throttle. Good times.

I also once finished an enduro race by pulling right by the carb. That was much less fun than the scooter incident.

In high school a mate had a little yellow bike of some description. We called it the Chicken.

So one day, after school, we're 3 up. Me on the handlebars, him riding, another on the back. Throttle cable was snapped at the grip, so I was holding on with my left hand whilst throttling with the right. He did brakes and steering.

Why? Why are we like this?

10/10 would ride again.

a Good wash and she will be leka! THats the 650 right? lekker man! When we going for a ride?
Yep, it's an 05 SV650s. There are one or two things that I want to do but it's running great. Definitely drop me a message if you're going for a ride some time!

Can personally recommend either Pirelli or Continental. (Given I ride a 1200GSA, so not going to recommend a specific tyre, but rather brand and where).

From reviews, it does seem continental has a faster warm up period than the Pirelli's, having said that, the pirelli's I have on now (Scorpion trail 2) are great in the wet, no slipping and very sure footed.

Best bet is to phone around, stock on those brands seems to be a bit of an issue at the moment. I know new stock is arriving beginning of April, according to Ace Sports and 1/2 other stores as well.

I put my new front tyre on at trac mac, good service overall.
There is also "just bike tyre" in Brackenfell.
Ace Sports distribution as well.

I second this. If you stick with decent brands you will be fine @BlackmistZA .

I personally run Scorpion Trail 2 on my Multistrada V4 and Michelin Anakee Wilds on my 950.

I used to enjoy the Pirelli Angel GT on my S1000R. I think they will work great on your 390.

Have you tried the Diablo Rosso 3s? The confidence in corners i got from changing from the Angel GT's is crazy. They also comparable in the wet.

Yeah I have. Had them on the as well S1k and ran a set through on my Panigale. Definitely a better tire, but didn't wear as long. For street riding the Angel GT was enough to fuck around and hoon with the naked. I ruined a pair of riding jeans on an offramp with the Angels.

The Rosso 3s are undoubtedly the better sport tire.
