Has anyone else experienced this? I usually pay for 50Mbps download but woke up this morning with 100Mbps, is this like a christmas thing on Telkoms side?
Your ISP would usually inform you of a speed upgrade a few days to a week before they make the change. I was on a 100Mbps fibre line with Afrihost (Metrofibre is the FNO) and then Afrihost emailed me explaining that they would bump me up to 200Mbps for free. Took about 2 weeks after that as they said that they can't just bump everyone up at once otherwise it would overload the infrastructure.
I'm not sure if Telkom still has an online portal of some sort but maybe check what package you currently have linked to your account. It should define what speed you would receive.
Just checked my Afrihost package(OpenServe), and I'm still on 250.
Maybe Telkom did do an upgrade though. It's easier for them to upgrade you and hope you stay on the same package than risk you paying less for the same older speed. I would imagine they would start upgrading slower packages first and then do the faster packages later as more capacity becomes available.
I'm clocking 10Mbps more on MTN LTE today. I've tested a few times during the week, so I have no doubt the speed is improved. There might have been a major network fix/upgrade nationwide.

There was a double speed promo for 50Mbps and under that only certain ISPs offered and then another double speed promo but just for the download not upload.
Telkom used to do this stuff all the time. We went from 128Kbps -> 384Kbps -> 1Mbps without fiddling with our package or asking about upgrading over the course of maybe 5 years? The temp upgrade thing is probably true, but don’t be surprised if one day they permanently upgrade you.
