Good Day All

I am having some issues with my Windows 10. Had I look on Youtube and google for solution but no luck at all.

The issue started when windows 10 updated few weeks back. For some reason it made me an user and deleted any sign of an administrator account. It does not exist at all. Also all the Windows 10 Apps do not work. Following the Windows Task Manager the apps are open but never appears on the screen.

So I am stuck with an User Account I can't really do anything or install anything without the administrator account.

  • I tried to repair the windows but needs administration permission to do repair.
  • All the areas to select yes is faded out.
  • If I want to change administration settings through command prompt it says access denied

Does anyone have an solution to this or link to assist with fixing this issue?

Regards

Also noticed this on a streamer PC I had running in the lounge. It only happened once I changed the motherboard though so not sure if this could have been the cause.

Luckily there wasn't much on so I formatted and reinstalled windows. But yes it is an issue with that update. For some reason It didn't affect my gaming machine In my study. Super happy about that hey.

Good luck. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Have you tried to roll back to before the update...its an option under win update if i remember correctly(y)

Quickest fix i found that windows 10 is guilty of is re-enabling windows defender/security. Check if you have 2 antivirus programs running. Normally what causes eratic issues like what you have

Copy and pasted from internet, but pretty sure I have changed admin settings on Win10 when had a problem (ownership of files got set to some system created account) [there is a inbuilt admin mode your can access from safe mode] using this or a similar method:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press and hold the F8 key until you see a black screen with a menu.
  3. When the boot menu appears, choose safe mode.
  4. When the logon screen displays, if you see an account named "Administrator" select that account. By default, there is no password associated with this account.
It will take a few minutes to log on to Safe Mode.

When the Desktop appears, select Start / Control Panel / User Accounts.

Select the Manage another account option.

Select the account that you previously created for yourself.

Select the Change account type option.

Select the Administrator option and click the Change account type button.

Exit Control Panel and restart the computer.

Log on to the account you changed and you should now have administrator privileges.

Jip. I need administration rights to roll back. Plus the settings to acces win update doesn't show.

I tried rolling back through command prompt. It only said no previous version available....Something like that???

But thanks.

On a unrelated note, we have been experiencing issues lately with machines that after updates or updating to the latest build 1809 it shows windows is not activated. Upon investigating it shows that the machines have a 10 home licenese which is false as all our machines have pro installed and joined to domains. Microsoft at its finest.

Apologies for the spelling meant to say LICENSES!!!;):D

Had a few unexplained issues on win 10 ver 1809 as well and just thought fuk it! time for a fresh install.

Used the Win 10 media creation tool for a latest version but surprised to see its on 1803...googled a bit and saw that they've stopped the October 1809 update and rolled back to a stable 1803 to sort all the bugs.

I miss the file explorer dark mode though:cry:...but stable and no issues thus far(y)

Yeah... someone is definitely getting fired. Causing absolute mayhem with end users.

Err, you'll be pressing that F8 till you end up a corpse. That feature is gone with Windows 10 by default ( can hax it back in manually ). When you're at the windows 10 login screen, hold down shift while clicking restart. This will bring up the Win10 recovery screen where you can select boot/reset/startup options etc. Alternatively ,go to settings/update & security/recovery/advanced startup for same result (just this way doesn't work if the settings app is broken)

The 3rd way, on older version of Windows 10 (before 1709) the shift+restart doesn't always work at the login. Get to login screen hold power button down till pc/laptop switches off. Do this 2 times and then the 3rd bootup will go into the recovery gui

Ive also had to deal with alot of issues because of this recent update and tried the old f8 method and found out the hard wat they took it away, for what apparent reason I dont know, that guy should also get fired, it was a simple method that worked, now I have to shift this and press restart and hope and prays it goes in to safe mode, felt like I had puzzle to solve just to get into freakin safe mode

Some feedback...No success at all.

Each day that passes I am hating Windows 10 more and more...

  1. I used the Command Prompt to check my administrator account if it is active. Yes, it is active. But for some reason, it still identifying my account as a user account. So I am blocked from changing anything.
  2. When I do change accounts it wants me to log into a New User account that I never Made with a password.
  3. Tried to log into Safe Mode the screen goes black and mouse curses go on with swirly forever never logs into safe mode.
  4. Tried the boot disk thing didn't work as at a stage it asks that the program wants to make changes to this system and only has no that I can select.
For some reason, this Windows 10 update broke the whole OS App. system as well none of the app. work.

My BBQ brain was thinking of formatting the whole windows 10 thing and start from fresh.

There’s a patch out for your needs by the way. MS realized their boo-boo and have released a fix.

Looking at this thread and thinking back over the amount of Microsoft related issues after updates is ridiculous... It is a wonder that whoever is in charge has managed to keep their job.

My all time favourites in order;
Candy Crush saga and the likes, auto installing
Spotlight wallpapers not working
Office365 installation freezing at 3%
Start Menu stopping working entirely (this includes server 2016), quick search failing, tile layout reset, icons not displaying, pinning not working.
Re-write of all folder security permissions in C:
Erasure of User profile data

Dont forget the good old 100% disk usage which the solution could be almost anything....

Legitimately a massive problem that I had with a clients server. Every week or two, we would get a call about it.

Of course my boss never kept servers patched so...
