Why the hate for Renault?

I can't tell if you're joking.

Would this be allowed on the highway?
Max Speed70 km/h, 5th Gear
Fast lane all the way baby....
At least that's the speed the fuckers in the fast lane travel here...

A coworker had a kwid... emphasis on 'had'...
Guy rear ended him at like 40km/h and wrote his car off sending both him and his mom who was in the front passenger seat to the hospital (her with a fractured vertebrae or something (back was fucked basically)).
So yea... safer to ride a bike in my experience...
I have always been of the opinion that one's car should not be made out of recycled paper mache.

I've had my Renault Megane RS225 since 2009 and its unbelievably reliable. In my 13 years of owning her (she's almost 20 years old now) I have never struggled with any major issues. No electrical problems, zero mechanical and she's modified with a bigger turbo, remap etc.

I've done countless track days with her, gone across the country multiple times.

I have not struggled for parts, I think this was an issue when they first came back into the country, but now, parts are readily available. Maybe not like VW or Toyota, but pretty comparable to other manufacturers.

I'd also like to mention that the Kwid is not a Renault, it's a Dacia (Romania) that has been rebranded for our market. It's a cheap as chips car and you literally get what you pay for. I've not driven the newer model, so can't say what it's like compared to the first one that came out. But it was not a fun highway experience. But it's not meant for that, it's a cheap city car. Not really ideal for our market here where vast distances are travelled for the most part.

The Megane 2 (which came out in 2002) was the first car to get an Ncap 5 star rating, so official Renaults are safe.

So I been car shopping for a couple of weeks now. And I narrowed down my search to a few cars, among others, the Renault Kwid.
And I'm the kind of person that likes asking for advice.
Now the one thing everyone keeps telling me is "Don't buy Renault"

I remember my father told me way back that Renault parts are hard to find, and expensive to repair, though I called a few auto shops and asked around for the price of common parts; belts, filters, oil, brakes; and the verdict was its a bit more pricey than the Figo I'm currently driving, but no more than expected.

So my question is, why the hate for Renault?
Is it bad past experience?
Is there merit to it still?
Do you have a story to share perhaps?
There is a reason why the Renault Kwid, a European car made in India, is banned in Europe

Ay, I klapped a GTI6 silly just the other day, and then a lumina SS on the same day when I had to go to Krugersorp
Why do okes in Krugersorp want to race all the time? :ROFLMAO:
Well if it was a WRX i would know why

Cause literally stands for
Wanna
Race

The missus has a 2016 Renault Kadjar 1.5 diesel with 80k on the clock now. I was also hesitant initially, but Renault borrowed the platform from the Qashqai, got rid of the rubbish CVT auto box, and put in a dual clutch box (a good thing IMO, Nissan CVT's are known for kak).

The ownership experience has been better than I was expecting. 1000km on tank and easy to live with. This car has changed my opinion of Renault for the better.

My friend has one and parts are kak expensive and parts are hard to find (took him half a year to find an airfilter)
I can second that air filters are hard to find. Contemplating importing a few for the work's Super Carry, dirt cheap in India where their made .

Cape Town when any car with a coffee tin exhaust pulls up next to my bike....
Always fun to see them get angry when they can't even pull away while I'm in 2nd gear...

I have a 2021 Renault Duster 1.5 dci Techroad

Absolutely love it, not a days issue done just over 35k on it from new, have had the sevices done on time,

Cant comment on the KWID, but the Dusters, and i have a few friends whom have older models in excess of 300,000km and they still going strong with almost no issues if they are looked after and services properly

Have a Sandero for almost 5 years and have not had a single problem with it. Think all newer Renault cars comes with a 150k km warranty.

Im also looking to upgrade to the Duster though.

Have owned 4 Renaults (I'm a fkn slow learner).

2001 Laguna 3.0 V6 bought new. Engine self destructed in month 2 at 3k km's. Replacement engine took 5 months to arrive & self destructed when it reach 15k km's. Second replacement engine took 3 months to arrive. I drove it from Renault Edenvale to Renault Northcliff who were the only people who would even look at it.
Traded it & nobody would touch it except Renault Northcliff. Managed to walk away with a Clio 1.2 without having to put any extra cash into the deal. Talk about a downgrade!

2002 Clio 1,2. Bought new (traded the Laguna) Gave it to my wife & sold her Tazz. Renault had better safety than the Tazz & we had a 1 year old child, so the swap made sense.
It was the best Renault experience I have had to date. Gave it to my MIL after 3 years when I bought the wife a Fortuner. MIL kept it for 6 years. Had some electrical issues (electronic boot lock gave up the ghost twice at R3k to replace/repair. The third time we didn't bother to fix it). Electric windows also gave kak, as did central locking. Radio display was orange/red which was useless as soon as ambient temp got over 25 degrees it just became illegible (Nissan Juke has the same kak display)

2005 Megane 2 1,9 dCi. Bought new. Traded my Jetta 1,9 TDi as I was concerned the turbo would blow as it had just over 250k km's. Fok, ek was stupid.
Turbo needed replacement twice before 20k km's - both covered by warranty. It would then go at 65k km's and again at 110k km's. I took an extended warranty with Renault after the first one fkd out, they paid for the last 2 replacements, but not without argument & hassle. Had an idiot rear-end me. Car stood for 3 months awaiting parts. Simple parts - rear bumper & tail light cluster. Crankshaft damper needed replacement every 60k km's - at a princely sum of R4,5k including labour each time. Extended warranty covered that too - with a fight.
Got rid of it at 130k km's when the gearbox started giving shit. Renault wouldn't touch it as a trade. Honda Midrand found some doos of a second hand car dealer who would cover it, but I still had to chip in R23,5k to cover the outstanding finance.

2001 Megane Scenic. This was my late Mom's car, and was originally imported by Renault Edenvale as a "demo" of what type of vehicle the Scenic was to show to prospective clients. Was a 1,6, with auto box & 2 sunroofs. Auto box was a "learning/intelligent" box, so learnt your driving style and programmed itself accordingly. She purchased it as a demo with a few thousand km's on the clock in 2001.
Tailgate lock kaput many times. Electric windows kaput many times. Gearbox gave up the ghost at 80k km's. Renault wanted 130k for a new one. Plus a 4 month wait. Mom had it repaired for R20k, but it no longer had the electronic learning function. Like she gave a shit.
When she passed in 2013 the vehicle had 97k km's on the clock & had been religiously serviced and maintained. I foolishly decided to keep it - sentiment & nostalgia are a bitch. Spent R30k getting all the little niggles and kak fixed (boot lock - AGAIN. Electric windows - AGAIN. Electric seats, central locking...... fok ek is stupid).
Wife was driving it one afternoon & it "started making a rattling noise & lost power". When she stopped & phoned me I told her the cambelt had broken & it was fkd. Pistons had hit valves. Told her to drive it to her Mom's place which is where she was headed anyway & to leave it there, I'd collect her. She was about 2 km's away, so she drove. It was indeed pistons hitting valves. There is a little metal "key" in the valve train that holds the top pulley in place. It had broken. Top pulley spun freely, motor self destructed.
Sold it to Guillaume at ASAP motors for a pittance. Last I saw he was using it as a courtesy vehicle.

Fuck Renault.
I will never own one ever again, and neither will anyone in my immediate family unless they want to be disowned. Renault = Fkn French KAKA!
And now I've wound myself up & need a fkn beer.
And also. Fuck Renault.

Cant go wrong with the Duster, and i did numerous months of research before buying mine,

I did take the extended warranty, so i will keep mine right up till the end before trading in for a new one,

And i just have the 4x2 model, and its such a pleasure to drive, comfort and economic, and just such a smooth drive with that automatic gearbox, and deff not a slouch when you put your foot down,

Dammit dude, you hear stories, but very rare to see it laid out bare like this.

Enjoy the beer!!

Lots of feedback on why Renault is kak

Summary: If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck....its a duck

They give you every extra you can imagine, by using the cheapest worst equipment they can get their hands on. Look at one with 100K on the clock, and its interior will look like its been used to ferry angry tigers around town for years.

I think they are rather good looking in general, however, having driven a few, everything has the cheapest feel to it.

First time I’m hearing of this brand … Renault !? This Italian ?

Renault, they're French and 12 time Formula 1 champions.

One day you can trade your Porsche in for a car from a brand that's actually won something in the world's top level of motorsport ;)

Umm excuse me sir. That's Old Renault. New Renault couldn't win a bicycle race if it was on a decline and they were the only contestant.

ahem:

Oh sorry, didn't realize driving around the track by yourself with no other contestants was a race. And even that one it didn't win, so I remain vindicated :D

[Le Mans has entered the chat]

Does Le Mans have its own Netflix show with 5 seasons ? Checkmate.

And current Porsche can't win anything right now except Formula E, they pulled out more than the Chinese manufacturers in SA every few years.
