Howdy everyone

Been gone a long time from the multiplayer shooter scene and it's been disheartening to see the state of it now with no local servers and bad releases of certain franchises :(

So what online shooters are everyone on PC playing these days that are local? Been itching to play some Battlefield but there barely seems to be anyone playing.

Many of the BF guys now play Warzone. Its free, has local server support, large map, even has aircraft. I dont think you will be disappointed. And there is a Warzone 2 rumored to be coming out later this year. Will be free again.

Does it have Easy Anti-Cheat?
I been out of it for a while, had to sell PC due to some tough times.
Well it had an anti-cheat. But popular games with large player base will always get cheaters that get around it. I have heard though that they have seemed to curb the tide on cheating a little. Exactly how much I am not sure.

But I am a BF nut dude. Played from BF2, BC2 all the way up to BF2042. Was a vehicle whore who then got tired of vehicles and went into comp 5v5. Then became in infantry whore.

IMO Warzone is the best replacement to the dying BF scene. I still miss the previous Verdansk map and wasn't a fan of Caldera last time I played it, but its the best alternative to BF fans right now.

I want to try a shooter - preferably a free one, but EAC is unfortunately preventing me from playing any EAC related game on Linux (Rust being one of them, but Rust apparently is getting a patch soon, so I can try it on Linux in the coming months)

I dont know if that's going to or wont work with Warzone. My code speaking ability stops at adjusting a monitor resolution and setting up key bindings. :sneaky:
But I am sure someone else here will be able to comment on that?

Oh really? I'm not at all familiar with the whole battle royale genre so will have to do some research. Which game modes should I be looking at for the locals?

There is ALWAYS a workaround

The problem is every single patch you need to reimplement your workaround, which is just futile if you do it yourself
I mean Linux users have been waiting for Rust for quite a long time, now finally it gets some attention, mainly due to Steam Deck

*Anyway I see CS:GO is playable, let me try that game for the first time :D

CS:GO works just fine on Linux, as rule of thumb any EA or Ubisoft games with anti-cheat is a no go on Linux in my experience. So I wont even bother.

Well the game was invented for BR but thats just one of the many modes you can play. They often mix the play list up with Plunder being the most played option. Its basically a free for all in squads (teams) of up to 4 players where the team that banks the most cash from loot and downed players being the winner. Some guys play for the win others just play for kills.

Don't get too excited :D
The inverse of my statement works as well

And hate to love it
Just like Dota

I want to see which game has the more toxic playerbase - I think Dota takes the crown there, but will report back tomorrow :D

Honestly, I have a great group of friends on CS, and we seldom become OR get toxic people. A few here and there, such a small amount that it is very easy to ignore (unless you are a very very fine snowflake)
(Or they get more respectful because of my age. Did hear one or two saying, don,t swear boys, the tannie is playing.) 😂
Maybe meet you online tonight?

Ah, damn

Thanks for the offer but literally I am brand new to shooters - would you mind a complete noob?

No, anyone welcome. We have 8 year olds kicking our butts. Send me your friend stuff, we can chat. I need kills anyway, so cannon fodder you can be... 😂 😇

Played the below over the last 2-3 years, with EFT being my main game at the moment and a little CSGO mixed in.

Escape From Tarkov - Maining this at the moment. Can be the most satisfying yet soul crushing game you'll play. A steep learning curve in some cases. I've played a number of FPS titles and Tarkov is very well thought out, far more than just your standard shooter.

DayZ - Little less hardcore (server dependant) than Escape From Tarkov, but still hardcore. Different experience to Tarkov. Your experience will differ from server to server.

Warzone - Awesome game up until Caldera and that parking lot size map they have now. Verdansk was such an awesome map. I pretty much stopped playing after they removed Verdansk. Still worth while looking into, depending on your FPS tastes.

Super People / PUBG - Not sure if the Super People beta is still open, IIRC its free to play. I prefered it over PUBG. Cool Battle Royale stlye game(s), worth checking out.

BF2042 - Many people hate this game, don't even bother looking at the shit tornado on the BF subreddit. I actually enjoyed my time in this game, although I will say - don't buy it, see if you can get it via the Origin subsciption service. I think we have 2 fullish portal servers running at the moment.

Rust - Still quite popular, haven't played it in years. Worth looking at.

Squad - Realism shooter, no local servers but I never had an issue with playing on EU servers. Worth looking at.

CSGO - Honourable mention, the goat of FPS games.

I will add, the FPS scene has been kinda dead (IMO) over the past few years, I think Warzone was a pioneer at one stage (2020) but has slowly died not just for me, but for a number of people.

Of my list above, granted most of them are still being updated with new content you can hardly say they're 'new' FPS games which is kinda sad...

EFT - 2017
DayZ - 2013
Warzone - 2020
Super people - Full game is unreleased
PUBG - 2017
BF2042 - 2021
Rust - 2013
Squad - 2015
CSGO - 2012

Not the greatest - but Twitch viewership is usually a fairly good tool to see what's popular. While keeping in mind that the SA community is very hard to rely on for in game population - which is what EFT inevitably struggles with.

So CS:GO is fun, but I feel like I will get thrown in the deep end

Hopefully they will match me with genuine first timers like myself - I just completed training, let me try a real game :D

Lol, just got shot in my poe5 by someone 5km away

*WTF man, I can't even see who is on my team and who isn't

Man forget these snipers bro... what kinda bullshit is this? Before I can see if he is even on my team he kills me in 1 hit

**Lmao by some stupid fluke I won my first game - I did get some fluke clutch kills when it was 6-7, making us 7-7
Guess I will play bots cos damn, these okes are not new

Oldies mostly, DN3D (going through the mods slowly) is the most consistent entry.

You guys getting matches in warzone? I installed it yesterday, tried to find a match for about 10 minutes, got annoyed and uninstalled. I'm on xbox. I've also been on the lookout for a decent battlefield like shooter to get into on xbox with crossplay.

Just come play Destiny 2... It has aggravating match making that barely works, 3v3 comp pvp that will make you rip your hair out, and some awesome pve strikes, dungeons, and raids.
Oh and it has swords and glaives if stabbing/slashing shit is more your jam.
