Hi guys,

Really scratching my head.
Bought a new case and transplanted my system across. No changes in other hardware just the case.

System boots, in bios I can use both kb and mouse but once I get into Windows 10 (which was working perfectly before the transplant) no kb and no mouse. Both go dark.

I've tried loads of things that were suggested online with no joy.
did a system reset by using Google remote desktop and nothing. Now I can't even use remote desktop.

Running a MSI z97 gaming 5 board with corsair m60 and k70 kb.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've updated the bios to the latest release, no change.
I've formatted the drive where Win10 was installed and when I insert the flash drive with Win10 on it I get to the language selection screen within the install and the KB & mouse dont work.

I had an old Win7 install on another drive which I booted into. Mouse & KB work perfectly.

Any ideas?

My thinking was to do a fresh Win10 install on the drive but I've had no joy so far.

this sucks coz if the issue causing this is a setting in windows you cant really go in their and fix it hey, it may be the selective suspend setting, all you can really try is to connect the kb and mouse after your windows has booted up and see if it detects it then, or to use different USB ports, use the red ports (gaming device ports) they are the ones at the very top of you IO.

Time to wipe those HID input devices and start over.

Connect someone else's cheapass set to fix.

Thanks for the help chaps.

Formatted the drive and installed Windows 7.
All working well until after the 4/5th reboot while installing MB drivers etc. it happened again.

No KB no Mouse in Windows.

Feel like bashing my head against a wall!

Just have a cheapy set standing by so that you can clear the HID devices when the fancy ones stop working.
This is really odd though...I can understand it not working in BIOS and perhaps even Windows from the get-go....but to do one and not the other or to take a while to glitch is something I have no come across yet. Would be really interesting whether a clean install (after the offending HID devices are gone) would suddenly re-ainmate them.

well I did the clean install, everything working 100%.

couple of reboots later & nothing again.
Both with the expensive toys and a cheapo set.

Have tried uninstalling all HID devices but it's not trying to re-install them once I then reboot.

Struggling to wrap my head around this 1.

The only thing you changed was the case. You try unplugging the case usbs from the motherboard?

cheapos too? ok...I'm as stumped as you are. I mean fancy drivers not working is one thing....but the generic ones glitching out too...that shouldn't be possible.

Yup, the only usb's on the case are the 2 usb 3 ports on the front.
No change.

So even if those front USB ports are disconnected it doesn't stop? Because now that I think about it, shorting USB ports can potentially cause the whole work for a bit then don't thing.

Nope. That's what I thought as well. That's the only change with from the old case to new.
It still makes me think it's a windows issue...

Is it only the keyboard and mouse? Can you charge/detect your phone or some other usb device?

It's detecting flash drives and pushing power to my phone etc. though admittedly from other usb ports both front & back.

I was very happy that Win 7 seemed to be working perfectly again but then suddenly no joy again. very weird!

A fresh install should have solved windows related issues...but try a linux live cd and see what happens. definitely no screws behind the motherboard? standoff pins high enough to clear any flexing in the case?
