Air Link being released - native Wireless PC link for Quest and Quest 2

Also 120Hz rolling out

I saw. I hope VD still better. Cause I only recently bought it... Don't want to have wasted 20 dollars for something that will be free now

Whilst I understand the sentiment, I hope AirLink is better. I have also bought Virtual Desktop and its good, but not perfect. If AirLink is better then we all win.

Same boat as the rest I guess and Its a rough one, I own like a bunch of games on steam that are like 3x move expensive on the oculus store but I really do hope AirLink is better.

My quest 2 just arrived, bought VD tried it with the router that came with the vive tpcast. Turns out the ehternet port is not gigabit so looking to get one for the Q2. Wonder if FB will have a long list of recommended routers.....don't smaak like paying more than I need to for yet another router to be in the same room that is just dedicated for one device.

Has anyone had good experiences with sub R1000 routers to use with VD?

I bought some router secondhand for R500. As long as it has 5GHz and dedicated for the quest, you'll be good. I don't have any issues other than my PC struggles to play PCVR.

True. Although I somehow doubt it as they stated it wouldn't be as good quality as link and for me at least, VD looks much better than link. My link looks terrible and doesn't seem to perform as well. Has better latency and that's about it.

Good point that, airlink will probably only work for Oculus games, so Virtual Desktop still has value for steam and other games/experiences/applications etc.

The quest 2 soc apparently supports 60ghz...i have a feeling that at some point FB is going to enable it for airlink. The vive wireless solution used 60ghz and it was amazing albeit the form factor wasn't great. Maybe FB will release a dongle or something similar so the quest 2 can connect to the pc without needing a dedicated router. Exciting times for wireless VR

The XR2 SoC does support 60ghz but afaik no 60ghz antenna hardware in the Quest 2

Oculus Link supports SteamVR so we can hope that AirLink might as well.

I mean it was bound to happen right, Quest 2 is more powerful than Quest 1 and eventually someone was going to make a game that couldn't run on the Quest 1.

So then the quest 3 is probably coming out Christmas 2021....

Anybody get Airlink working yet?

My headset is still on v27...

I turned it on and it was just a huge lagfest, must have done something wrong. Didn't really bother any further.
Did you do the whole separate router for the quest wired to the pc buzz?

Wonder how come the v28 update is not showing up for my headset

I do have 2 routers the one connected to the quest 2 being the faster one. So not sure why its not showing up for you ( I did try in the week and could only get 27, 28 was only available for me Saturday), I did notice some of the settings after I did the update that didn't show up but resetting experimental features to default sorted it out. Note on wireless though, its decent but If I am honest, I still prefer playing tethered for the quality. It is nice having my pc in another room and being able to play in the lounge though.. On occasion.

I thought maybe it was a South Africa thing but if you have v28 already then it must be something else. I'll keep refreshing.

Going tethered doesn't work for my setup with little kids in the mix. If you don't mind me asking, what model router are you using for the quest?

Download the update and manual update over Sidequest

Ah I understand, well wireless via virtual desktop works pretty well, there is also a beta version out for 120hz already. I have a Asus RT-AX55 AX1800.

That is strange, I know people are getting the update at different times but I imagined everyone in a particular country would get it at the same time.

Yeah it is a bit odd, I'll give it another day then go the side loading route like Qui_Illustrati mentioned.

I did try VD but my in game latency was between 35 and 75, not great. Because of my circumstances, I have alot of wireless devices. I noticed even having the pc Xbox ONE adapter connected caused issues with VD. Just want to play Alyx wireless and my wireless og vive screen door effect is just bugging me now that I've used the quest 2.... I knew I shouldn't have bought the thing.

35ms isn't bad at all if you can keep it there... 75 on the other hand :poop:

I think mine is around 38-40ms. Network latency being around 12-15 If I remember correctly. Its fairly stable though. I think I would get much better latency over all if my pc was better. It is a real shame playing tethered isn't an option for you. It really does look so much better using the cable.

I have an OG Rift cv1 (bless it - its put in some work over the years lol) and I was forced to use it again and man the difference is big, I didn't notice it at first but after using the Quest 2 for a while now it really is obvious how big the quality difference is.

Just sideloaded v28. Airlink works much better than vd. Do you know how to check latency numbers while using airlink. Vd had it as an overlay option

No idea, I haven't really used airlink, I found out what my latency issue was though so I might give it a shot later.

What was it? Useful to know in case someone has a similar setup or issue.
Airlink doesn't seem to like it if you make any adjustments to the bitrate / settings using the oculus debug tools, you should revert it to default if you are using airlink.

Upping the bit rate in the normal ui though maxes out at 200mb. Feels like it can do more
