Star Citizen - spiritual successor to freelancer and wing commander

Let's steal his ship. I'll salvage it and buy something nice for my hangar hehe.

Btw, grabbed the business hangar for my 325a the other day. You can hardly see your ship in the basic hangar

Sent using direct mind to machine interface

YES - i'm in!

PS: i decided to join the brown coats... oh yeah!

The business hangar is so much better. You can actually see what's up. I also prefer it to the deluxe hangar.

So if you don't know, RSI released info on the Organisations:

On launch, you will be able to select a type for your organization. This defines the groups overall goal. We’ve divided organizations into five archtypes:

Corporation – a for-profit business entity. A corporation is a great choice for everything from shipping flo-pets to Goss II to organizing a hostile takeover of Origin Jumpworks.
PMC (Private Military Company) – For organizations with a taste for combat. Focuses for PMCs include escorting cargo runs, hunting for pirates or helping the UEE take on the Vanduul.
Faith – Organizations that have come together for a single cause or under a single banner. This could be rebels fighting for Terran independence… or the devout followers of the LAMP!
Syndicate – Common interest groups for those who operate on the edges (or outside) the law. There’s safety in numbers when you’re moving contraband through Spider or preying on hapless cargo ships.
Organization – Want to make your own way without any previous association? Feel free to leave your group’s archetype blank!

And then a second post:

There has also been a great deal of feedback about Friday’s All About Organizations post. We would like to clear up one point of confusion: while you will only be able to join a single Organization with the first iteration of the system coming in January, this limit will be eliminated in future versions. Being a member of multiple organization is absolutely necessary for the finished game, and has been in the specifications from day one: players need to be able to join multiple NPC organizations (like the Mercenary’s Guild or Merchant’s Guild) in addition to player created groups.

There will be a reputation system that tracks how organizations stack up against one another and individual orgs can specify their exclusivity level: the Mavericks might require that you join only allied groups, or they might prevent their members from signing on with anyone else at all. All of this is coming in future versions of the Org system; we aim to get you started with a single group now and then expand as the played-created portion of universe comes together!

Any one seen any organisations they are joining?
I'll probably join up with the one created over at Bit-Tech.

I still need to buy some version of this... but honestly am at a loss about which is the right option :(

That complexity alone makes me wonder if I'll ever really get into the experience properly... and there's always the international ping concerns.

Looks like the Dogfighting Module is delayed. This was to be expected though. They are going to release it on the proper infrastructure and with all the added items from the crowdfunding goals it will take extra time. Rather they do it proper than go with a "it'll do" attitude.

With very little to show for it. this whole thing could be a scam :p. as soon as the dogfight module is released ill probably buy it

And how much does blizzard show while they're early in development? Or any of the other big guys? The developers here have been amazingly transparent in everything they do. How many people have said those exact words by now and how many of those people have been proven wrong... all of them

EA shows everything in early development!! in fact..i can still use it while its in development now. hahaha. but you have to admit. thus far it follows a similar method to a ponzi scheme. show them a little to keep em sated. then keep pulling in cash

Just cause their final game feels like an alpha release doesn't mean you're seeing early development. Show me where they keep the community up to date with details on pre alpha design / decisions / module release. I'm gonna enjoy bringing back these threads when it's done and rubbing it in your face. The rest of us have lifetime insurance on our ships, you can come in later with your tail between your legs.

:D I agree...They are really telling us nearly everything. All the developers used are renown for previous titles and they even have videos of tours of their studios showing what they are working on. The Hanger and ships are also extremely detailed for it being a 'scam' :p

never said it was a scam.but dont see the point in buying a ship until i can fly it around at least. and its not like you gonna keep the same ship(can you have a fleet?) and EA has been keeping people up to date with what they are going to fix

Tell me your definition of alpha.. since it varies from program to program. i have played pre-alpha games more stable than bf4. in fact im pretty sure that star citizen is less buggy in its current state.lol

Yes, you can keep the same ship. People already have fleets right now. You can buy multi ship packages if you like or buy them individually. The hangar also increases in size appropriately to accomodate your ships. The ship I have right now (325a) will be my all rounder / fighter and I'll work towards adding a more adept dogfighter (hornet / maybe cutlass), trading ship (maybe constellation) and then later have an uber ship like the idris-p.

The developers are making sure that backers get their items at a reduced rate in comparison to the final game. I'm not sure how the ingame currency and ship prices will compare yet though, and how long it will take to buy / obtain the other ships through just playing.

sorry to nitpick but getting way too amped :p but can you fly them simultaneously? I've heard that some ships require multiple pilots aswell which alone is pretty epic

well, you yourself can't fly multiple ships simultaneously. That just wouldn't make sense. But some of the bigger ships have companion fighters. I'm not sure how those work but I'm pretty sure they'll work in the same way as turrets and you'll either have them AI controlled or have a friend pilot them. As to whether or not those companion ships are some of the ships from your hangar i'm not sure. I have read however that the really big ships would allow fighters with not such a long range to land and refuel, etc. So in that scenario if you had one of those big ships you'd be harboring a bunch of other players and their ships.

Seems like the best way to play is a bunch of friends pool cash for a big ship and then all help out on it(on the prime ship or otherwise). Which is cool since it means you gotta work as a team to get anywhere. anyway busy creating account :p

Looks seriously snazzy.. I think it's going to be really hard to not get obsessed with trying to own all the ships. Frik, I just had this vision of it turning into Pokemon for me: Gotta catch em all

$30 :) no subscription, just a once off...unless you want to buy more stuff...then you can spend up to $1500 if you want to :p

Well the $30 will get you an Aurora. It is quite a capable ship. It will do just fine when you start off. It has a couple of guns, decent cargo space, a bed for long travel distances and a jump drive (well you can equip one)....and from there you can work your way to any ship in the game. I spent a bit more, because I quite like the Avenger and it is a bit bigger and a bit more versatile.

If you check the link below, you can compare all the ships with each other. All of them are attainable in game, by playing. The amount you spend is just going to get you a different ship, does not mean it's better if you can't fly it, or don't have the in-game funds to run it.

Yeah I agree, definitely think a ship with a crew would be boss. I would be keen to pool some cash if someone wants to start a crew?
The question is, can someone join just as a companion (without buying a ship)?

Not sure, but if its possible then I would consider buying a big ship and then having people crew it. My problem with such a scenario is that how do you decide when you play and who's ship is it actually. Cause the people that contribute might want to play when the main guy isn't there and they'd feel the ship is partly theirs and so on. I can only see fights coming if you pool the money. Best would be to have one guy buy the ship, the others join and profits gets split with the owner getting most of it.

Got to say as a mainly console gamer this could have me upgrading my pc and converting. It just looks and sounds the business

Sounds like it could get complicated :/

Time will tell. We can figure it out later. We don't have enough of the final game to know how all the bits work

Seen as the last post here was from last year, how is everyone feeling about this game 4 months into the new year? :D I just purchased a Flight stick to get a hang of using it to pilot a craft and Strike Suit Zero to practice space combat! Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut on Steam

The Helmet flip in the PAX demo is just way too intense haha :D

After seeing the game footage I'm even more excited but I won't buy flight hardware until later this year. I want to see what the manufacturers bring out to suit the game.

As long as they don't partner with Razer I will be happy haha :D Can't stand how buggy their hardware is most of the time even though it looks fking amazing.

I went and got a cheap flight stick just in the mean time to get used to flying with it but I will most likely end up with the X52 due to the fact that the DFM will be out for a long time before the actual game comes out.

mm, looks interesting. A big fan of freelancer, this could be epic. However....time wise it might be an issue :p Freelancer took loads of time to just get started.
