Thinking of getting one but am wondering about failure rates since they focus on speed possibly at the cost of longevity.

And I happened to come across this Here's why you should NOT buy a Sabrent Rocket SSD and I do not relish the thought of sending something overseas for a replacement.

Anyone have any long term experiences with this brand? Do you need to update the firmware regularly?

Surely if you buy from a reputable reseller that sells it with a warranty, then you deal only with the reseller if something goes wrong during the warranty period?

For example if you buy from Wootware, then you deal with Wootware regarding the warranty, and they deal with whoever they sourced it from.

You're not buying it from Sabrent directly. You are buying it from Wootware (or whoever) so the warranty is with them.

I intend to potentially buy from wootware actually.

They state on the product page that for the warranty to be valid you must register online at sabrent, which is why I am wondering who I will be dealing with directly after a a few years into the 5 year warranty.

I have asked wootware this question earlier but am still waiting on a response.

EDIT: resellers in SA often only have an initial 1 or 2 year warrenty and then push you to rely on the manufacturer warranty directly.

I might be putting too much trust in people, but Linus Tech Tits uses Sabrent drives for pretty much every build and I would like to think that he actually has some integrity and wouldn't use / advertise the brand when it is a trashy product.

Wootware responded, they will be the warranty agent throughout the whole period..... now I just need to finish the wants vs needs war in my head.....

EDIT:
But still no specific opinions on Sabrent? Neva used a SSD like this that you need to update the firmware of before.... Only have an older one I use as a game performance drive.

Maybe the guy in the link just never ugraded his firmware?

They also come with a 5 year warranty when you register with Sabrent.
Do it, they are very lekker.

If it makes you feel any better I had to warranty a Sabrent Rocket 4 1TB via Wootware. RMA was sorted (drive replaced with new) within a few days.

The fact that I needed to RMA it after just 7 months of use is the other story. Catastrophic failure; BSOD, data corruption and then I couldn't even complete POST as long as the drive was installed in my PC. This is anecdotal, so take that for what you will.

So SSD failure rates are now what HDD failure rates were where you never really knew how long a 120GB or 160GB drive would last?

It should be more amazing to us how reliable HDD's have become..... At one point I just ran through seagate HDD's like no tomorrow.

On a hunch I did a search for sabrent on the LTT forums..... same complaints of drives randomly dying after as little as 2 months. Did a wider search and forgot the forum but one guy had 3 drives die in quick succession.

A few responses mentioned PSU's potentially being the problem..... are SSD's extra sensitive to bad PSU's?
