Hi guys, so some of you might have seen my post from a while back looking for a developer position, well I finally landed one in Pretoria and am now URGENTLY on the hunt for a room or a small apartment to rent during my probation of 3 months. It's been a grueling battle to earn my spot in this company and I have to start on Friday already!

This is really important to me, if anyone could help me find someone I can rent a room, small apartment, hell even a wendy would be fine especially if it had internet access, I don't mind paying a deposit, credit / criminal checks and all that can be done (already done by the employer). Internet access would be a big plus but not essential, this is just for me to put in the in the overtime and prove myself to earn a permanent spot - not for downloading or killing the bandwidth. If anyone could help me out it would really mean a great deal to me, and allow me to progress in a career I've invested so much time and energy into. The workplace is in Lynnwood but any nearby surrounding areas would be perfect.

It looks just a bit better than a wendy but it is all I could find for that money

Thanks so much @cdmnuy, I'll have to sign a lease agreement for this one, and really only want to stay for 3 months which is why I'm really more looking into a granny flat / room that I can rent from someone during the probation period. Still I appreciate the effort in searching it out!

Don't do this.

Well, depends. If its paid overtime, sure. If its unpaid, don't.

Your salary is paid for your working hours. If you're being told that a permanent position will only be granted to those that "go the extra mile" (ie charity work) then I would seriously reconsider the position, because the same principle will be applied to future promotions etc.

Don't work for free.

Trust me on this.

Just my 2c

Other than that great job landing a apot and good luck with the rental hunting.

I appreciate the input, to be honest though this is what I'm doing in my free time anyway right now, I have over 10 years experience in ICT but have spent the last 2 years working as a junior developer, hoping to reach intermediate after another 2, so trying to stay productive even if it's on my own practice projects, or just to prove myself as a junior that I'm worth investing into.

Fair enough. Definitely worth while working on your own projects.

All I was saying was be careful of the "free labour else you don't get X" corporate BS
