Ordering from .com costs $499 + $137 shipping and works out around R16,000 BUT ordering from .co.uk costs 475 + 27 shipping and works out around R12,000 after taxes and 3 day shipping.

Ordered mine for R11800 last night and it will be here by Friday... Hope this helps someone

Thanks for this. I've ordered from the US site before so I know when I pay it's the maximum amount with all customs fees and import tax included. Does it do the same from the UK site?

Amazon doesn't do any additional charges in my experience. They always cover the difference if there is an excess
In fact, I have received refunds on import charges in the past. Just yesterday I received $0.13 back due to the import charges being reduced after they billed me. I have, on occasion, received refunds of $0.02 or even $0.01. If they make a mistake / prices change they refund me, simple as that. I read somewhere on their site they say if they undercharge you they eat the loss but if they overcharge you they pay you back... well, I repeat, they refunded me as little as $0.01 on occasion. :)

Have you had this experience on the UK Amazon as well? Or just the US one?

Just the US one but I believe their business practices are the same? Speaking under correction though.

Thing is, though, I usually use .com since the price difference between local and them, even after shipping, is usually significantly different. I just spent 2 weeks in the USA and made use of Amazon a lot while there then came back home and went "Ohhh, maaaaaaan! RRR for the quest + 50% shipping. That sucks" and then remembered the shipping difference on .co.uk and went to have a look. This is like the 3rd time in years that I have bought from .co.uk. Now that I have reminded myself of the price difference between .com and .co.uk I will be comparing prices / shopping around a lot more. For now, though, I have mostly experience with .com only... Some with .co.uk but not a lot.

lol @ I ordered the Quest 2 on .co.jp on launch day and mine was shipped and on the plane already before it even launched in the USA. :D Ironically enough, the USA had it listed as "Not available to your destination/region" so I had to shop around and bought it from Amazon, instead of Amazon and had it shipped to me before they themselves launched it :D I love that story! :D

Point is: In amazon we trust ... just have to shop around BETWEEN Amazons, is all 🤣

Yeah that's their policy, they're usually spot on in my experience with the estimated charges, but you're covered either way which is nice. I imagine when we have them here locally, we can get access to new gear and stuff without any import charges which will be epic

I read somewhere that when Amazon launches here it will be a "marketplace" for third party sellers rather than Amazon selling stuff themselves. But I guess we'll find out.

I ordered my quest 3 at 25 Nov and received mine on 4 Dec (was supposed to be here on Fri 1Dec but I guess people in SA are lazier)

Still it was quick shipping from UK to SA. I also ordered a 3rd party silicon face cover and paid zero extra shpping costs which is nice.

I must admit that this order is frustrating me :( When I bought it they said it will be here on the 9th ... then changed to the 11th. Even on the 12th they still said it should be here on the 11th... now it's at the 27th. :( I used EXPRESS shipping but the parcel was taken to Heathrow airport (where I KNOW they have daily direct flights to RSA) where it was on hold for over half a week before being shipped to another airport in the UK where it was once again placed on hold before being shipped to Bahrain and then finally to the UAE and to this day it is still not on it's way to South Africa :(

I know it will most likely still arrive before Wootware's pre-orders but yeah, this is stressing me out. MY address at Amazon lists "Brits, North West, South Africa" but the address at DHL lists "Brits, North Wes, Brits" and makes no indication of South Africa at all. When I called them up to ask if this is going to be a problem they first wanted to redirect me to "Amazon South Africa" before sending me a link to the phone number for DHL Egypt...

I have bought from Amazon (USA, UK and Japan) a lot in the past and never struggled like this before. This order really is a headache 😱😠

Curious, you didn't mention the elite strap. I am thinking I need to get one of those ASAP as every review I have read/seen says the device sucks *%&^* without it. How is your experience with it without the elite strap?

Don't buy the elite strap beacuase of this: https://www.roadtovr.com/quest-3-elite-battery-strap-pause/

I made my own custom made head strap for the quest 2 and will do the same for the quest 3. If I wear the headset for 30+ min it starts to hurt a bit on the back of my head

I have this RIFT for sale / trade if anyone looking for a cheap option . It can still run all PC VR games .

I wonder if I have this wrong... will find out soon enough, though....
I have had my eye on Mini Moto Racing X for a while now and noticed it costs $15 on the Oculus Store but only R50 on Steam. Now with Steam being able to stream to Oculus devices, do I even need to buy stuff on the Oculus store any more? Hmmm.... Will see soon enough! :D

There's virtual desktop and the normal oculus airlink to stream on pcvr but the more options the better.

Did you claim your asgards wrath 2 code? I'm quite curious how the game would be after tomorrows launch date.

I still have to play half life alyx I bought a year ago 🤣

They will selling from distributors as well :)

Decided to get the elite strap today (not the one with extra battery, just the one to relieve the pressure from my cheek bones). Saw it costs R3500 on Takealot ... so I went to Amazon UK again and paid R3800 for the strap and 3 solar panels for my Eufy security cameras.

Local prices are insane. I also had to pay shipping and taxes so that excuse is just nonsense to hide a hefty profit margin. I wonder, when Amazon opens in RSA, will there be any difference between them and Takealot? I mean, Amazon is synonymous with quality customer service in my eyes but at the end of the day they work exactly the same as Takealot and local sellers will still charge local prices for stuff so will Amazon.co.za even be worth having or will we still buy from overseas to get the bargains? I mean... $69 for the strap translates into R3500? Really?

I am hoping for the best but I suspect the local one will just be a rebranded Takealot in terms of the buying experience

Just to clarify, I like Takealot BECAUSE they are so much like Amazon but I prefer Amazon because they are a heck of a lot cheaper than Takealot. This is why i wonder: When Amazon comes to RSA, will it be worth it or just be another Takealot?

Indications are, just another Takealot. But I would be happy to be proven wrong.
