Hello friends,

I am in a bit of a predicament, I want to purchase a vehicle from durbanville however I am located in Durban and I have no contacts in durbanville. Is there any way I can get a mechanic who is trustworthy to go and look at the car and check if it's all okay Cosmetically and Mechanically?
Can anyone advise a mechanic?

also check out the VIN number for details of the Car... Service history, accident history etc.

you could use something like this

Has anyone had any experience with CMCLIFESTYLE Dealership?

Okay I know this place CMC Lifestyle been driving past it multiple times a week for more than 30 years... Lets just say its one of those places that has a new name every few years but staff remains the same.... I even wanted to buy a car from them about 20 years back but they rubbed me the wrong way....

Honestly this is something that you need to look at yourself as Voortrekker Road car dealers do not have the best reputation.

Thanks man, I read some HelloPeter reviews and they aren't too good either.

Do you have a link to the car? I'm not a mechanic but I know when it's worthwhile to pursue purchasing a car. I flew from Cape Town to East London to buy a modified car after only seeing the pics on gumtree and speaking to the owner (buying modified cars are already super risky). My hunch paid off. I'm still driving the car a year later with no issues :)

I can go take a look, possibly test drive it and get back to you with some proper pics and my opinion.

Thank you friend! Would be glad to know your opinion!

If that's the car you looking for i might be able to put you in touch with a private guy who will be selling his car soon.
Also an Audi S5, not sure the information but can find out for you.

That would be appreciated please.
I'm specifically looking for the 4.2L V8 version.

The car appears to be in relatively good condition. I'll go check it out during a lunch break in this week and get back to you.

Just be aware, the cheapest part of buying a rare/limited/performance car like this is the purchase price. Keeping it maintained when something breaks will set you back by quite some margin, especially an Audi. Be sure to have like R30000 available at all times for preventative maintenance/breakdowns. And forget about any fuel saving! 😂

If the above is a non-issue, I'm sure you'll enjoy this beast :)

Thank you so much man. Yeah I should be okay for repairs and fuel as long as this car is in good condition. I was supposed to pick one up last month from jhb but the dealership had clearly been hiding the fact that it was accident damaged, shoddy workmanship for repairs as well. I think I saw epoxy in the engine as well. So I hope this isn't one of those stories.

That's a bummer, but luckily you noticed the issues. Most of the dealers are just out to get rid of their stock by any means possible. And that includes withholding important history of the car.

I wonder if Dekra offers a service of going to a dealership to do their inspection. My previous vehicle went through the comprehensive Dekra check by an interested party. They inspected the car for any accident damage and found the car was in a minor rear fender bender which I didn't know about. I'm sure the dealer won't mind taking it to Dekra if you show serious interest; You'll have to pay for the check obviously 😅

I usually check the fender alignments and do the "finger test" (which I coined) that checks the chassis alignment by checking how many fingers fit between the wheel and fender arch around it. It should be the same on the opposite wheel.
Knocking on the panels for filler and checking under the car for new suspension parts is also a good trick for identifying accident damage.

Send me your phone number via PM and we can take it from there.

Hey Man,

I can always go have a look at it for you, been driving Audi's for years... I used to own the 2.0T quattro A5 so I do know the A5 issues... and the issues that come with the Quattro system.

I am also pedantic when it comes to my vehicles, so notice small things right away.

The few things with the advert. those cars don't come with "adaptive headlights" it will either be high beam assist (the lights switch off brights when car is oncoming) or just level adjustment due to weight.

Hit me up with a PM if you want me to look.

Just those stickers on the side would make me stay away.

However, if you really really keen..

Contact someone at WeBuyCars or GetWorth and pay them (make it worth their while) to do an inspection. These guys are very thorough and look for damage/strange sounds for a living. They check the VIN at dealership, run OBD scan and scrutinize paintwork. I'd be happy to buy it after their go ahead.

Your insight into Audi would be quite valuable here! I'm sure another set of eyes on the car wont hurt.
