Description of Bad Deal:
So I responded to the sales post made by Noob_leader for the gpu by PM, saying I'll take this and to send me his details via whatsapp so I can do payment and that I would arrange TCG to collect from him once cash cleared. He responded via whatsapp firstly asking if he could send it via Postnet or "something" because he does a lot of driving for his work. Weird right ? I immediately make a physical phone call to the oke because I like to talk to people before I pay them. Oke sounds quite okay and I say to him look bud, I don't like Postnet they rubbish and I want this to be sent via TCG and that surely he should be able to drop it off at a TCG kiosk in the same way he would at a Postnet. He says ok cool, I he will let me know where he is going to be, I'll check which TCG will be closest to him, then I arrange with my local TCG for collection advising them that he will drop it at the relevant kiosk and all seems lekker.
So he sends his banking details with Bidvest straight after and I do payment, marking it immediate on my banking app. This was 13h48 in the afternoon on the 10th of March and besides having entered his cell nr in my banking app so the bank could text him PoP, I also sent him a whatsapp saying payment was done, all of this at 13h48. He confirms 14h36 saying thanks and that he thinks cash should be in his account the next day. Myself being with Standard Bank, I know the app advises you when doing payments to new beneficiaries at other banks it may take up to 2 hours for payment to reflect, so at 16h22 I ask him if he received his cash, he responds at 16h43 saying no, he got the text from bank but Bidvest is slow and it should reflect after midnight. To which I respond at 17h37 saying it is strange because I paid extra costs for having marked it as immediate.
So seems the oke was sitting waiting for the cash cause at 00h27 on the 11th ( yeah, basically half past 12 in the morning) he sends me a whatsapp saying he got the cash, and that he will be in the Durban CBD the afternoon of the 11th. At 05h49 I respond saying ok, I will arrange for collection in Durban so my TCG peeps can give me a collection number that I can send on to him for him to use when dropping it off at TCG so he doesn't get held up at TCG. So at 09h24 I send him the collection number advising he can just drop at any TCG kiosk and use that collection number, they will sort from there. No response from him other than the 2 little ticks turning blue indicating he did read.
Then at 14h53 I get a whatsapp from him saying while he was at a customer they broke in to his car and stole his laptop and my GPU, he is on his way to make a case at SAPS and hopefully insurance will cover it. Followed shortly at 14h54 by another whatsapp saying he will refund me I shouldn't worry, he used the cash I paid already but he will make a plan, ending the whatsapp by saying he will call me later.
At 15h34 on the 11th March still I read his whatsapp and naturally I am pissed as heck. I respond by saying I am pissed but it is what it is. I ask him if he's been to the police yet as I want the case nr because I will now in turn have to advise the oke who bought the PC in which that card was to be used that there was a problem. Because if it was me, shit I would go straight to police so they can take fingerprints and what not. He responds at 15h59 saying he has gone to report at his work first, his battery is flat and going to die.
At 18h09 he sents a whatsapp saying he has just been at the polce and that he doesn't think his insurance will cover him and gives me the case ref nr as : 208/3/2020. Immediately another whatsapp falls also at still 18h09 saying he wants to ask me a huge favour
At 18h10 his favour whatsapp falls reading verbatim: "Ek het nie nou dadelik al die geld nie ek is nou broke ek het nie geweet wat so gebeur nie. . . Maar ek smeek jou en vra ongelooflik mooi of jy asb my tot die 27st sal gee om jou terug te betaal ek sal jou even rente gee"
At 18h12 verbatim: "Laat weet asb ek stress erg oor die ek wil nie bad review op carb kry nie"
At 18h14: ek kry salaris die 27ste en belowe sal dit dadelik terug betaal word"
At 18h18 I ask him does he not have other cards he is selling, thinking that maybe we could make a different deal tring to sort this cause I now have to wait till the 27th and also now have to source another card for the PC I was building, advising him I am not happy.
So I leave it at that cause he doesn't respond immediately and I sit steaming on this shit, my paranoid brain thinking all kinds of stuff. I have a talk to my brother in law who is a detective and he says I must get the exact name or details of the police station where he reported the case as he can then check the deals on the SAPD system to see if it is legit. So at 21h44 I ask the chap for the details, to which he responds at 23h12 : "Dit was in Durban CBD gee hom my nommer dan sal ek hom laat weet wat aan gegaan het. . ." Not exactly what I wanted to know though.
Still at 23h12 he says he only has like a GTX660 laying around not knowing if it is even working in response to my earlier question around maybe having another card for sale.
At 23h13: "Maar ek maak seker jy kry R930 terug teen die 27ste dit is 'n belofte aan my kant"
At 23h14: "Ek se jou wat sal die gtx 660 vir jou verniet gee en jou geld terug gee laat weet asb of dit reg is"
I don't respond cause I am obviously pissed. Then on the 12th of March at 13h32: "Hi daar ek gaan vandag Pretoria toe soek jy die gtx 660 ?"
Still 13h32: "Dis verniet om opp te maak vir alles so laat weet asb"
I respond immediately asking him if he doesn't know if the 660 is functional at all. He responds saying no he doesn't know, somebody gave it to him like a year ago and it just sat there. I'm driving so I send him a voice note saying I need to know if the 660 works because incurring more costs to have a card shipped that is nt working is just stupid. He responds saying it makes sense, he will have it tested the next day. I say ok good if it works it might help a bit with my feelings regarding this whole shitfest. He concludes the conversation saying he will do the test and let me know he is just on the road at the moment.
On the 14th March at 12h29 I ask him if he did test the 660 as agreed and nothing, the two ticks on whatsapp doesn't even turn blue anymore.
On the 16th March I try calling him, but he doesn't answer the phone. So I sent him an sms at 18h09 saying I have been struggling to get hold of him and am getting worried, what is going on? He then calls me at 22h03 but I don't take the call cause everyone in the house is sleeping and I sent him a text at the same time saying that it is too late and that I will call him in the morning.
on the 17th March at 07h12 I get the following sms: "Hi daar ja foon se screen is stukkend is in die transkei vir my werk gaan saterdag pta toe dan kan ek daai kaart stuur" So itake a few things from the text, firstly that if he can send the 660 on the Saturday (21 March) when in Pretoria, then it would infer that he tested the card and it is working, otherwise why want to send it as previously discussed with him. The second thing I think of at the time, if the phone screen is broken, why would it work with an sms and not with whatsapp?? I leave it there and decide to wait and see what happens.
Not having heard a word again, on 26 March at 13h12 I send him a whatsapp asking when I can expect my cash, not even bothering about the 660 anymore as it clear that wasn't happening either, much as I expected. Jusst to make sure, I also send him the same message by sms.
I hear nothing from him so yesterday, the 27th and the day on which I was promised I would be refunded, at 16h48 I sent him a PM here on Carb advising that I am done with this rubbish and that if I do not hear from him regarding my refund by 09h00 this morning, I am going to open a bad deal thread and also lay a charge at SAPS. At the time of sending him the PM, I could see that he was last seen on Carb on the 11th of March. This morning before posting this thread, I checked and it showed he was last seen yesterday evening at 17h29, so I think it fair to say that he did then read the PM and chose to ignore me.
I don't even care about the damned 660 to be honest, I just want the R900 I paid to this person to be refunded to me.
