Hey guys,

Not sure where to post this but this seemed like the right section when looking at the different sections.

Here is my issue at the moment.

I have just bought a ASUS Strix Z370E MB, 8700K, Corsair vengeance 16gb ram upgrade kit.

When i built the pc on friday and installed all hardware and turned on the pc i noticed that my Xonar Essence STX sound card wasn't showing up in windows.

I installed the card in the PCIE 1_4 slot on the MB, this slot is one of the small PCIE slots furthest away from the GFX card. Then i decided to check a different slot and moved it to the PCIE 1_3 slot and BOOM there it shows up in windows and works perfectly.

My question now is a two part:

1. Is the PCIE 1_4 slot a different type than the PCIE 1_3 slot, e.g. a PCIE slot not compatible with the Essence STX or do you guys think it might be faulty?

2. Seeing as the card is now in slot PCIE 1_3 RIGHT next to the GFX card, will there be issues with heat?

I would really like any feedback the AWESOME Carbonite Family can give me...

1)Not compatible - unlikely. Faulty - possibly.
2)Will there be extra heat - yes. Will it cause issues, unlikely.

What GPU / case / heat exaust / cool air intake do you have? Can you post a pic? Have you disabled onboard audio ? You have 3 8-16x PCIE slots, job GPU in another slot if your worried about heat / move sound card up/down as you can install it into ANY of the remaining PCIE slots (assuming non are faulty).

Have you run OS updates & installed mobo drivers?

according to mobo page, that slot will be disabled if you do, so try and disconnect that and try again

Thx for the replies so far guys. I hthink Off the Chart has this spot on so far.

I will check tomorrow morning quickly and get back to you guys.

Can you possibly share that link with me? I have tried to read up on this and I have had no luck so far.

Thx for the reply. I have a pretty decent case with sufficient cooling and airflow in the case.

Cpu cooler is Corsair h100iv2
Gpu 980ti standard clocks

I think I will follow your advice on moving the SD card up the chain and gpu down.
