Good day Carbies,

I believe I am quite knowledgeable to make decisions regarding most hardware PC related, but when it comes to screens I am totally lost and confused. Please provide me with some solid advice:

My current rig

i7 7700
16GB DDR4
GTX 1070 8GB
Dell SE2717H 27" 75hz 1080p IPS monitor

Games played

CS:GO
BF 4 & V
Forza Horizon 4 on a G920 racing wheel setup
Dirt 4 on a G920 racing wheel setup

I do not game much nowadays, but enjoy the above mentioned games from time to time. My PC is mostly used for the occasional game, multimedia, browsing and streaming videos via Youtube etc. I probably do not need a fancy monitor, but it's obviously a nice to have for smooth gaming and excellent picture / video quality - I do spend a lot of time behind my PC.

Advice needed

Either purchase a second monitor like the one I have or purchase one 27" 1080p 144hz monitor. I am not to concerned about a second monitor, although it would be nice for my racing wheel so I do not need to move it around when playing racing games. However, I have become quite interested in the 144hz 1ms monitor debacle for a smooth gaming experience. Due to my GFX, I do not think it would be wise to go with a higher resolution monitor like 1440p - I do not want to sit with a bottleneck / lagging issue. I believe the 1070 would suffice on 1080p for the time being.

What confuses me: Where do I start... refresh rate, response time, light bleeding, ghosting, input lag, freesync etc....all of it. I just want something which will make me happy when I look at it and be better than my current screen.

My budget is around R5k to purchase a new 27" 144hz monitor. I had a look at the below two monitors:

AOC C27G1
Viewsonic VX2758-P-MHD

What I like about the AOC is that it is curved and has the aesthetics of a gaming monitor. There are some mixed reviews about it but overall the majority rate it as a decent budget gaming monitor.

I would like to stick to 27"+.

The thoughts, advice and opinions of the monitor gurus will be highly appreciated :)

Hey bud. Just my 2cents on the matter;
1) having a 1070 try and push 1440p at 144hz will be a tough call on basically all of those games except CSGO.
2) my understanding is that 27 (or maybe it was 24?) is the limit when you go 1080p (which I would recommend you stick to for your 1070) because higher inch will start showing pixels which ruins the fhd experience. 1440p should be fine for 27 to im-not-sure-what-size.
3) once you experience 144hz (just in general use, nevermind if your game keeps up with it) it will be super difficult to go back. Its literally like having permanent headache just lift away when you 'feel' the smoothness :)

So yeah. Despite some bottleneck from your 1070 on a lot of those games, i would still pick a 144 over a second screen. I use this LG 24 GM77, and have used the newer gm79 as well. Excellent panels. Viewsonic is also good from what I hear, but have not used them personally.

That might not be a bad option for you?

But 144Hz on CS:Go alone is worth it. Makes one a much better player
