I almost have all the parts necessary for my first custom loop, but I still need to choose a fluid. Since I am buying some stuff from bykski anyway, I was thinking Mayhems V2. But I have honestly no clue. Any recommendations appreciated.

My only suggestion is don't get a opaque coolant. these tend to separate after some time.
This causes the bits to clog up your cpu and gpu blocks which can be a real pain in the ass to clean out as you have to take the entire loop apart and scrub everything.
I know Mayhem was working on a new opaque coolant which doesn't separate, but not sure if that has launched yet.

Their transparent coolants are fine though, but just note that some of them could potentially dye your reservoir and the like after some time, though these aren't issues unique to mayhem's coolant however.

I am currently running clean distilled water with no additives or the like in my loop and temps are perfectly fine, so for a budget option look at that.

Have been running EKWB CryoFuel in my loops for a number of years without any problems (replacing fluids about every 2 years)

Do you use a biocide or anti-corrosive in your loop?

Nope.
Last time I did with distilled water it caused green shit to form on my fittings, so I opted to not include it in my loop since.

Sounds like typical copper rust, ironically what anti-corrosive is supposed to prevent.

I think the irony comes in where I didn't have copper in my loop, unless one of the blocks/radiators of mine is copper and I didn't know.
Didn't have any issues after flushing that coolant however, so who knows.
Never had any other build up either except for that one time. at band camp

whose parts were you using that wasn't copper?

EK Gaming Fluid kit?

Don't need any of this fancy stuff. Just use the rainwater that you find collected in your gutters. If you don't find enough, it helps to gather the leaves and squeeze them out (like you're ringing a cloth out). You'll be surprised how much extra you can get.

I am going to partially hijack this thread, shamelessly.

Say I want to build a CPU only loop in SA. (Ryzen 3700x, o11 Dynamic, Matt black flex tube)
is it possible to build it entirely from one brand, like EKWB/Bykski or will I be mixing and matching like a moegoe?

Cause, I'm about to to give up on this till I live in a different country

Thanks.

Also, I believe that these fancy hardline setups require too much maintenance to always look that good

Bykski has a local presence and pretty decent stuff. Can easily build a full loop for a pittance compared to top tier brands. The difference between the "best" cpu blocks and most byskis is less than 3 degrees.

I use just distilled water and a biocide.

Bykski, some 360mm rad from a expandable aio, random fittings I have no clue who makes them, and that Phanteks waterblock that was on my 1080ti.

Money for EK's Kits I do not have :)

But that would be alu and copper mixed?

Not that I was aware of, but also didn't have that issue before the additive was added either...
Was running the same loop, with EK premix and it worked fine.
1 week with the additive and shit went sideways so I reflushed and just went distilled water and no issues.

See technically with distilled water only you shouldn't have galvanic corrosion, at least not for quite some time till the water has picked up enough metal particles that it actually becomes conductive and can retain a charge, thus causing galvanic corrosion.

If you run normal tap water then this will occur much quicker as tap water has all sorts of metal particles etc in the water already, hence why you can shock through tap water but not distilled water.

yep, should be able to do it from a single brand

and no, "maintenance" isn't really a thing to "make the loop look good"....

that is where your planning comes in.... 1 maintenance involved would be flushing/draining and if you have a nice setup, that could be a breeze

the other would be to at least totally clean your blocks and rads say every year or 2 maybe (or when you do notice something in loop)

that definitely sounds like a recipe for mixed loop

that definitely sounds like a recipe for mixed loop
but it works :)
Bykski block, bykski rad, some random rad from aio still, ek fittings, and acrylic tubing.
No buildup, etc and shit works perfectly :)
