is there a difference between lasercutting and c&c waterjet or does it get same result different technique? do i supply a vector image or how does it work?
- water: slower, could cost a lot more, can have cleaner result, wider variety on material
- laser: thinner material could warp, faster, less expensive
Since these companies usually charge by machine time, plasma or water jet is usually more expensive as it's slower. Laser has other limitations such as how small the hole is you can cut - eg the smallest hole you can cut in a 5mm thick steel is 5mm, the whole must be at least as big as the thickness (somewhat depends on kind of metal). Also on curved edges there's usually teething like marks. The really thick sheets will be better suited to water or plasma as it doesn't cause the metal to heat and get edge burn where the metal actually starts melting on the edges.
Also remember all the cutting machines have a bed size, lots of startups places will do 600x1200 if you want to cut something bigger you will have a smaller selection of proper cutting companies.
