Hi Guys,

Need some advise,

I have a few Hard drives from a Dell EMC server in a Raid 5 Setup,
I have the order of the drives.

I need a way to access the drives and use specific applications on the drives, I do not have a physical server where I am now , so would need to buy a dock or Raid controller

Is it possible? has it been done?
what hardware can i buy?

Hi Bud

Its hard to say , best bet would be to do some research to see what controller was in the EMC and procure that.
What type of drives, SAS? and how many?

No need for a dock to slot in the drives, you can setup something in a workbench (if you have something like this, depends on how temporary it is) You can even get something 3D printed.

Might have an issue to boot of the raid controller so will have to install or use VM with passthrough to a compatible OS that can read said filesystem.

Sas drives.
4 including c:

Need basically 2 weeks access.

Will research what you said above....sounds complicated:(

Thanks for the advise.

Where are you located? If you are willing to take a drive to PTA-East you are welcome to borrow one of my HP Controllers & SAS Cables.
I am quite sentimental about it so you will have to leave your first born or something with equivalent value.

Na its not complicated, either the controller will detect the drives as a raid array or not, more info will also help like what file system are on the array.

No idea About the file system.
Not in jhb at the moment.

Will be back to jhb when work says so..

Can you Link the controller or what is the price...

Maybe when I am back in JHB i can take you up on the offer...if the drives open..I can then purchase said hardware

The drives were probably connected to one of Dell's PERC controller cards, which means you'd have to connect it to another PERC or compatible card and import the foreign volume on the controller before it will be accessible.

If you know the source server model, you can figure out which PERC card version the drives were connected to and get the appropriate hardware.
