Keyboard Nut Thread

I'm enjoying them quite a lot. I've not used any other tactile switches so this is definitely a very awesome experience.

I've got a hotswap lily on the way which I'll use as a testbench for all my new switches.

Looking at mechanicalkeyboards.com

The Ducky One 2 Mini White RGB looks real good...

Anybody have experience with their shipping? (times and total duties afterwards)

Also - how does one choose between the 18 switch options?

Well for one you can eliminate all the Cherry switches. That should already help a little.

(Evetech has this keyboard btw, thought with less switch choices)

Box Jades is the obvious answer.

or gateron yellows.

Box Jades will keep everyone around me up 😳

Probably going to buy a cheaper board for now to test out some switches. I want to test Gateron Browns so I'll be getting the RK68 for that.

Apparently the Gateron Browns are much smoother than Cherry MX.

Have you researched yellows? Or just going with the most common switch?

I wouldn't say MUCH smoother. Just a tad less scratchy, and a tad more tactile. Overall a better switch imo, but not worlds away from the MX Brown. Don't catch the switch fever!

Would you say the Gateron Browns are at least enjoyable? Assuming one likes tactile switches.

Coming from someone who enjoys mx browns, gateron browns are very nice. Especially for what they are at their price point.
Gateron Browns it is then. Any opinion on the RK61/RK71/RK68 or anything around that price? (Amazon)

Sorry, I am new.

Asus ROG Claymore with Red Switches, definitely one of the best boards ive ever had, and ive had a lot! its expensive tho.

Got the Anne Pro II from @Dade1 who might I add, did a superb job in lubing the switches and adding foam for some sound dampening.
Added my Joker themed keys just to break the white a bit. Quality not the best but it'll do for now.

Thanks for the shoutout @EliteOp !!!

Yeah, I have seriously spent some proper time researching lubes and testing them over the last few months. The Silicone Shock Fluid that @PandaAttack1 discovered works great, but it needed a little tweaking to make it a bit thicker and added a few extra "secret Ingredients" to the mix to make it perfect for Keyboards. I have done proper breakdown test on the Lube via Ultrasonic, Heat, Accelerated Time Testing, Adhesion Testing and Corrosive Testing. All of these tests have passed with flying colours on the Keyboards and other Plastic Materials. I have also found a very good Grease for the Stabilizers as well.

I'm seriously considering putting a actual KB Lubrication Kit together and actually start selling them. They will have everything you need in them to Lube a Keyboard. Oh, I have also found an amazing way to lube the switches without any disassembly of switches or de-soldering, and it works as good as lubing open switches. If you doubt how well this way may work, ask @EliteOp how nice the switches came out on the Anne Pro II.

Let me know if you guys are interested in me possibly doing the kit. It Will run about R400-R500 for the Kit, but it will include everything you need for the job. The kit will include the following :

Lube for Linear/Tactile Keyboards - 10g (Enough to do plenty of boards)
Lube for Stabilizers - 3g (Also enough for Plenty of boards)
3 x Wooden Switch Pressers (To hold switches down while you lube)
3 x Pointed Wooden Grease Applicators'
2 x Pre Cut Paint Brushes for Lube Application
1 x 10ml Alcohol with Custom Cotton Buds (Clean Up Kit)
5 x Lint Free Towels for Use while Lubing (Damn that sounded better in my head)
1 x Set Nitrile Gloves

There might still be some extra's to be included, haven't finalized the complete kit list. All of this will be provided in a wooden box to keep and use long term for later use.
I'm using as many wooden items as possible, as I've found that wood is the only material that does no damage to the plastics at all!

I need about 10 people to commit to one of these kits, and I'll go ahead and manufacture Batch 1. Can have them out before Christmas if enough people commit fast enough :)

Let me know guys

Been lurking around this thread for a little while as a noob to this hobby trying to pick up any tips. Would definitely take one of these kits @Dade1

So you were the lucky bastard!

I've seen a board with these. However, the diffusion with pudding caps are still more appealing to me.

These are fantastic, but they show so much of the switches, I don't think they are ideal for all RGB builds.

I like that they show off the switches. If I was going for purely aesthetics I actually won't mind an all transparent board showing off all the internals.

Acrylic cases really do this well. It should be possible to make a transparent polycarbonate case as well. Unfortunately, there's no completely transparent filament for my 3D printer.
