Keyboard Nut Thread

Couldn't find a place locally that sells stabilizers and it would be like R250 to import a 60% set so I ordered one of those cheapo Marvo TKLs with the no-name brand blues.
Only buying from evekek because I know its something I'll be stripping for parts :)

Thanks for the idea @PandaAttack1
Awesome stuff.

There's quite a bit of kit included in one of those cheapo boards that are worth saving if you are into DIY. If you are keen, there are also a bunch of mods you can do to those cheaper switches if you want to play around.

Damn, lubed stabilizers make a huge difference.
Also gateron blacks are atleast 10x smoother than my cherry mx blacks.
+1 for the blacks comment. Cherry really should review their methods, the clones has caught up nicely. Even stock yellows are night and day vs stock cherry reds imo.

What did you lube your stabs with?

The gk61 I ordered came pre lubed (overlubed actually so I removed a little bit from them when I changed to my pbt key caps.

Kailh box blacks gang over here

Love my optical gateron blacks.

My favourite switch so far!

Finally joining the mechanical keyboard gang :)
Got this recently from another Carby, Cherry Silent Reds as my first introduction into mechanical switches but I think anything feels way better than rubber dome.

Unfortunately the case came cracked so I'm looking into using my novice carpentry skills to fabricate a case for myself, anyone here have any experience using wood for a keyboard case?

Some day though when I'm well knowledged in my mechanical keyboard journey I wish to make myself this keyboard:

A split southpaw keyboard, as much as I like this small keyboard currently, I'm sure I'll miss my numberpad eventually and this board gives me a numpad, ergonomics and more space for my mouse on the right. What are your guys' thoughts on these rare southpaw keyboards?

Welcome! I love that spacebar for obvious reasons.

Regarding the southpaw. I'm 100% on board with your decision to try a split next. Ergo and function above form. If you don't use your numpad often, I recommend you look into getting a fully programmable keyboard. You can then simply put your numpad array on a different layer. For instance, while holding your semi colon key ( ; ), your left half becomes a keypad.

This looks so good. After seeing pictures on reddit, I became a fan of the Satisfaction 75. This looks like a much more affordable option!

I know right! I've always been envious and the Keychron K2 was the closest I could get to that form factor.

I've been working on a design similar to that but with the through-hole components exposed.

Oh
Oh my
I might need to buy this... I wonder if Evecrap will bring these in.

I'm patiently waiting for them to bring in the Glorious Panda switches.

I wonder if the board will be fully programmable... Looks great, but still pricey at about R3k.

It's listed with QMK and VIA compatibility. You can make that board tap dance with those firmwares

Haven't seen this mentioned yet.

Introducing GMMK Pro

If anyone's doing a GB, I'm in.

EDIT: Today's posts only showed after I posted, apologies. :p

I have this old g80-11900ltmeu that's in pretty bad condition, the keys feel very scratchy (probably due to dust) and apparently these are awful to desolder the switches so it's just been sitting in my cupboard for a few years.

It's a shame because this keyboard would be awesome to lube and my motherboard still has ps2 ports so it would still work great.

Euwww and also Nice!

If you ever want to give it to a good home just pop a PM my way.

In other news:
Mysterium is finally done with a high profile acrylic case.
Using Kailh Pale Blues for a super satisfactory clickyness.
Lubed and tape modded stabs as well.

Those pale blues look really, really good!

Dude! If would absolutely LOVE tackling a grungy project like that.

I you ever want to sell, please put me first second in line.

@PandaAttack1 If you're seriously keen I can maybe drop you a black PCB when I get the new versions or would you prefer a Green one.

Every diode and resistor and stuff like that needs to be manually soldered on but it's well worth the effort.

Also, does anyone know how to clean plexiglass from all the static dust that gathers? I tried a microfibre cloth but that only charges it again after removing the particles.

That would be awesome. Black please. Let me know you get your V2 boards. It looks like a great talking point to have on the desk. The soldering I have no issue with. After a neat handwire build the PCBs are a joy to asseble.

I had a DIY acrylic when I was younger. I cleaned it as well as I could, then used a damp, almost dry cloth to wipe down. Should take care of the charge. But there was always a little bit of streaking in the right light. What does our friend google say?

PSA: Stuck or iffy switches:

One of my house mates broke a stem on his CM Storm (mx brown) board awhile ago. This morning we opened her up and cleaned everything out. I de-soldered the broken switch and swopped it for one of the numpad switches, and replaced the numpad switch with one of my old mx blues. We found that one of his other switches got 'stuck'. It will go down smoothly but it does not reset all the way.

If you have a switch that likes to get stuck; Soak a qtip or earbud in some rubbing alcohol, press down the switch and squeeze the earbud in one of the corners, so that the alcohol flows into the switch. Rapidly push the switch a bunch of times to dissolve whatever is keeping it stuck. Tada, the switch is functioning like normal again.
