Good day everyone,

My dad recently swopped a set of wheels he had lying around for an iPhone 7.

I noticed that the phone is still set up with the previous owners profile, so I figured that I'll just factory reset it. I then realized that you need to log in with the previous owner's password to reset it, but now this guy is M.I.A. You would think that he stole it but the account email it's set up with is his name. So I don't know what the guys deal is but anyways, being an android guy myself, I thought that you can probably just reset it with some fancy software and a USB cable. I proceeded to download a piece of software to try and unlock it and it failed, restarted the phone and now I'm stuck with an iPhone locked to owner screen on startup. At this point I'm sick and tired of this phone and its issues. I would like to find out if anybody knows how to get this thing wiped clean, or knows someone that can do it for me for a fee, so that I can just get this thing working again and give it back to my dad on Sunday?

I don't know much about iPhone, but I doubt that you'll be able to do anything without those logins. Android is relatively easy to factory reset without any real security.

This might work for you if you haven't tried it already?

Way 3: Using Recovery Mode to Erase the Data on Your iPhone

Follow these steps to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode and erase all of its data:

  1. Turn off your iPhone
  2. Connect the iPhone to your computer
  3. Perform a hard reset on your phone by holding down the sleep/wake button and the Home button at the same time.
    forgot iphone passcode
  4. Hold the buttons until the “Connect to iTunes” screen appears.
    iphone forgot passcode
  5. On your computer, choose “Restore” from the iTunes screen. This will delete all data from your phone.
At this point, you will need to set up your iPhone from scratch unless you have a backup. If you did have a backup, you probably would not be using Recovery Mode anyway. You essentially have a new iPhone in your hands and you can set it up as you like.

@joker08 (something to try if you haven't already)

Honestly your best and cheapest bet would be to try and get the original owner to log in and delink his account - try emailing the email he signed in with if it shows the whole email.

Or a motherboard replacement.

I was trying to find a solution to unlock the activation lock on the ipad for almost 6 hours yesterday.
The only way I found out is to pay some random website 40-60 dollars and hope they help.
Apart from this as a last resort I have to disable the SIM by opening the ipad and taking out a specific resistor(there are videos on utube).
This makes it a wifi only. This way there is no imei for the account activation.

There are people who advertise this type of "service" on Facebook that you can try. But I wouldn't trust them personally.

random Pakistani cell phone shop cant help?
I dont know about OP but I am going to try that tomorrow or saturday, there is this place in Cape Town called Gatesville which is like the main hub for pakistani cell phone repairs. Will ask around to see if they can unlock the Ipad for me. I am from India and speak Urdu so I hope they don't rip me off ;)

Those guys are VERY good at this stuff. I have a guy here in Bloem who does this type of thing in his sleep.

anybody heard from @DROID recently? See he hasn't been online for a while, would like to employ his services..

So I went to that place and asked around , I was quoted r400.
The nice guys said it's not worth it because opening the ipad means sometimes the touch screen gets damaged plus it's running iOS 9.3.5 so won't run YouTube or what's app.

I had an iPhone stolen about 1.5 years ago. It's been passed around a LOT (last I saw it's in the DRC, but it's been to pretty much every city in SA), and I still get emails from people trying to buy my password. I think with that in mind, it's pretty safe to say that you're not bypassing the lock.

Hey man, drop me a PM, I have located another one. This one we have the passwords for (will be cleaned) as well as most of the original packaging. It is a Mini 3 I think, yours to make up for the effort on the others.

U are right. The imei is locked to the user and only way u can bypass that is by changing it.
Dont know the exact specifics but there is an IC that has the imei recorded and they change that IC or use another phones IC.
This is also how they unlocked stolen IMEI/network locked phones.

There is this place called "Crawford market" in india where these things are done.
People used to come in with phones from UK , US and get it unlocked.

but that was like 6 years ago before I moved to capetown, dont know if it's still a thing, cyber crime is taken seriously in mumbai now. . But dont know anywhere in capetown.
