Hi Carbies,

I have recently watched a few videos of people installing an andriod system to replace their radio.

My Kia rio 2006 does not have Bluetooth, aux, GPS etc. I basically have radio and a CD player.

I was thinking of getting one of these systems but have no clue where to start or what are any good available options.

One of the other things I noticed is that not all of these systems have the same wiring harness and that is definitely not something I can DIY if it does not match.

Has anyone done this before that can share some advice on where I can get started?

I did find this online but I was unable to find any reviews: https://www.fruugo.co.za/carplay-an...4g-wifi-dsp/p-214985618-458438898?language=en

Jus google a bit you can get a plug and play witing system for resale some people like the originak radioa and wiring

Not sure how diferent the moddels are but something like this:

And for the headunit i have some experiance with sony but any dobble din android auto would work as far as i know most old car was either single or dubble din.

Been looking to upgrade my 2018 VW up headunit to a full Android Auto/Apple Car Play unit with a 7" display.

The issue is that I can do it and it does work but theft might be an issue and that's in the UK.

In ZA, you might as well just not do it unless you can hide the unit (in the glove box or recessed with a cover in the stock location).

I've seen MMI Droid box units which are only for BMW or Mercedes but basically, they sit between your current BMW iDrive head unit screen and the rest of the audio system (speakers, tyre pressure sensors, etc) and turn it into a full Apple Car Play or Android Auto experience so you don't need to mod the car in any way. I first saw it here

I can't find anything for Kia but it would be great for SA if they existed for all makes and models.

Bought this while was in stock, works great as it has wifi android auto. But do notice addtional drain of battery on my phone :(

Why not use a 12v cig socket to power your phone?

Edit: I see it already uses the 21v cig socket for power so unless you can return power back to your phone or splice the power lead and add a USB Type-C cable for your phone, that's a pain.

Edit edit: the unit has a 2.1amp 5v and a 5v type C set of ports so you could just use that for the phone.

It's not 1995

They don't steal car radios here anymore..... They take the whole car.

OP whatever you decide, make sure it has enough RAM as there are so many shit ones that constantly freeze up.

Did this with my Subaru Forester. HU from Alibaba comes with harness and adapters to fit what's in the car so that steering wheel controls work. Looks pretty close to OEM and still working fine after 5 years

Obviously, your experience may differ. If you do go down this route, get one with at least 4GB of RAM and built in wireless Carplay/Android Auto (instead of having to get an additional dongle)

There is this for single DIN . It works with your phne

Otherwise, any other aftermarket radio will fit.

And you can get an ISO converter so that you don't have to cut any wires.

Do you have a link to that product page? That's just a photo.

for the saffas Takealot

EDIT: Check the mk1

I've found this website but I have no idea how legit they are. https://www.desertcart.co.za/brand/joying

They sell Joying which is well known to offer universal smart head units that are of fairly good to very good quality (I'm sure that they have some really poor quality base units though).

You can buy Joying from Alibababa but I find that site a headache to navigate and you really need to understand what you're buying first (everything is labelled "newest" or "latest").

Desertcart is a drop shipper. Caveat emptor.
