Hi Guys

So my son is a avid Fortnite gamer but since the latest update he is struggling with his PC to keep up.

His PC's specs:
Colorful MB (Actually purchased for mining)
2 x 4Gb Ram
Celeron 2.93 CPU
RX 580 GPU
1TB HDD
700 watt PSU

Should I upgrade the existing, and if so what would be recommended? Or should I just start looking at a different setup?

CPU seems to be the issue, maybe RAM upgrade will help too.

If you are looking at a different setup, switch over to a Ryzen system. Also, get him an SSD, won't improve gaming experience, but nobody should be tortured by having their OS on HDD in 2020.

That Celeron is what is making it struggle. Bump that up to an I5 or Even I7 he wont be complaining again. To be specific what Gen Celeron is it

Do not really need to upgrade a whole platform. Just the cpu a second hand CPU like I5 will Be perfect

Thanks Ainsley.....So RAM 2 x 8Gb? What CPU should I look at?

I know... that's what I said.

He mentioned the possibility of maybe upgrading the whole system and I just gave him advice on that front too.

Basically;
If you want better frames now, just upgrade with CPU what your board supports.

If you want better frames now and better support and upgradeability in the future, consider looking at a budget Ryzen CPU + MOBO.

What exact processor and motherboard do you currently have? What generation/model number etc.

No. You are smart and I am very proud of you.

Also, I understand that my original post could be a bit ambiguous and I do apologise for that.

So you are looking at 6th/7th gen. Try looking around for i5 or i7 from that gen.

Issue is that those processors hold their value quite well, but they don't really perform their price. Will see if there are any processors worthy.

If I may ask, what's your budget?

So polite you are...

Yes I would say a nice CPU upgrade will help greatly a decent 4 core i5. Also, make sure the RAM is running in dual channel. If you do not go for the 16GB at this time.

You might be looking at something like these...

Knowing the motherboard model number might help, just to make sure about compatibility.

Are you sure?

From the manual I found it says that is supports Haswell processors on H81 chipset.
The first motherboard Colorful C.H81A-BTC V20 is essentially not entirely new, it was announced a while ago and should already be on the market, while the other two new models will most likely be available later this month. The C.H81A-BTC V20 is based on Intel H81 chipset and is intended for Intel LGA1150 processors, providing support for up to 6x GPUs. A pretty basic alternative to other popular solutions like AsRock’s H81 Pro BTC for example that this product from Colorful kind of seems to be designed from. For more information visit the officia

Apologies. Its this one[emoji85]

The next model which is more up to date in the form of chipset and features is the Colorful C.B250A-BTC V20. It is an Intel B250 based motherboard intended for the more recent Intel LGA 1151 processors with support for up to 12 video cards, though that 12 GPU support may be limited depending on the operating system you use (up to 8 AMD/Nvidia under Windows). What is more interesting here is that the motherboard actually has just 6x PCI-E slots and the other 6x GPUs connect via USB 3.0 connectors. This simply means that you do not need to use the small PCB board that plugs in the PCI-E slots from the usual package of PCI-E riser boards that rely on USB 3.0 cables for data. For more information visit the official English product page of the C.B250A-BTC V20.

@Sykes seems I missed your last messages over the RTX3000 hype.

I see you got the i5-7600.

Has your issue been resolved?

Hi Ainsley. It has thanks. And thanks so much for the advice.
