Ok so my son decided that he would rather get into pc than his current console gaming. He want to buy my pc. Within a year or two when he googled enough he could probably make his own choices, but for now I need some advice, as I know very little to set him in the right direction.

So first question is what the pc is worth. Yes I will give him a special dad/son price, I just need a more or less idea for maybe selling the thing and starting from scratch.
Asus A320m MB
Ryzen 3 2200g (3.6ghz vega 8 graphics)
16gb Transcend ddr4 2666hz ram (2x8)
Gigabyte Rx 480 4gb
Some 700w psu (think FSP)
256gb Samsung ssd
1tb hdd
Its is in a Raidmax case with glass side panel and also 4 raidmax rgb fans

I was thinking 5k-6k?

Now the games he mostly play is Fortnite, Warzone and Rocket league. The pc can get around 80fps average on Fortnite but not on highest settings. So would probably try to upgrade a bit. He has taken my 27" Checkers monitor so he can get 120fps.

Now Option A
Do we rather just sell this pc and start over?

Option B
With my limited knowledge I was thinking maybe upgrade to something like a Ryzen 3300X or 3500x and maybe a 1660ti or 1070. Now remember the boys funds will be limited. especially in the beginning he would not be able to upgrade all at once.
I know the MB is not very good, but can that upgrade be postponed to later and first better gpu and cpu, or is there big disadvantages and Mb should be upgraded first?

So some suggestions would be welcome as too what option and other advice on upgrades and MB's, Cpu's.GPU's

Edit: the biggest problem with this pc at the moment is that it even run say Fortnite around 100fps on lower settings, but then it get this huge dips to say 20fps almost feel like its stuttering. So dont know what causes that, temps etc is fine, I just assume its cpu or gpu that cant keep up.

perfect to play those games.

4.5k is a fair price. But if you sell it secondhand you will struggle to sell.

GPU are expensive atm. That 480 is still okay for esport games

Personally, would probably rather get a PS4. (Or the upgraded pc with 1660 etc). Thing is, for now it is Fortnite, in two weeks they want to play Cyberpunk on ultra settings. Thats kids for you.....:)

If it's the PSU you got from me, it's an FSP Aurum S 700W Gold non-modular ;)

If you really want to upgrade I would leave the CPU etc. as is and buy a better GPU. You could probably run a 1080Ti or even 2080 Super level with that CPU without major frame rate losses. The current CPU and mobo won't make the most of such a GPU, but the difference between running those GPUs on a 2200G and a 5950X won't be huge. Anything from a 1070 or 5600XT and up should improve your gaming experience by a noticeable amount.

But as @aiccc said the second-hand GPU market is a shitshow right now and it will probably get worse... Keep an eye out for deals but don't buy something overpriced just because you and your son are impatient.

Howsit

Assuming these items don't carry any warranty.

Asus A320m MB - R800
Ryzen 3 2200g (3.6ghz vega 8 graphics) - R1000
16gb Transcend ddr4 2666hz ram (2x8) - R1000
Gigabyte Rx 480 4gb - R2000
Some 700w psu (think FSP) - R700 (Assume it's the non-modular one)
256gb Samsung ssd - R350
1tb hdd - R500
Its is in a Raidmax case with glass side panel and also 4 raidmax rgb fans - R800 ( R100 per fan and R400 for case?)

R7150 (seems I am willing to pay more for it 😅 )

Now Option A
Not sure what's your budget cap, let's say you might get R6000-6500 for above bundle, how much do you want to add to that amount for a new system seeing as funds are limited I think option B is best.

Option B
I'd look at upgrading the motherboard (B450/B550 of sorts), memory (3200mhz and up), CPU (3500x/3600) and GPU once the dust settles.
You are on track with the CPU/GPU upgrades, the Asus prime a320m-k supports both 3300x and 3500x just ensure you have the latest BIOS for the board.

In terms of your issue with the frame drops that sounds like either a CPU/GPU bottleneck or thermal throttling (which you say the temps are fine).
Maybe look at downloading MSI Afterburner as well as RTSS (think it's included in the download) and configuring the OSD settings to determine the temps and usage during the game play when FPS drops happen.

Thanks. Yes there is no way I will let him pay 8k for a 1080ti out of warrantee. Sure within a year you going to see 3060ti prices new at around that. I suspect by end of the year all these stock shortages will settle and then we will se prices closer to exchange rate and whoever paid these ridiculous prices for used gpu;s are going to take huge losses.
I'm just trying to get him something that will run Fortnite at 120fps steady, not max settings just comparable to a Playstation graphics but higher frames.

Wow thanks for all that

He planned on buying a Ps5, so I guess his budget is around that 12k. But looking at complete pc's here on carb the guys ask ridiculous prices for pretty shitty pc's.

So it will be OK to upgrade cpu and gpu first to compatible with mobo?

Someone said the other day that the frame drops could be because of the 4gb of the gpu. Could that be right and upgrading to something like a rx 580 8gb help with that?

I will try the MSI afterburner, but I'm not very confident in changing setting etc.
On the Core temp program I have never seen cpu temp over 65deg and Radeon software gpu was max 76deg and for a 480 I have read they run pretty hot.

I think it does..............:)
Must say, we have various consoles, and my son (and me) uses the pc 99% more.

If this is your board then yes, you can go drop up to a Zen 2 CPU in it an any GPU newer than your current RX 480 should be fine.
Let's say you're a super cool dad and not a blou bliksem, you sell your son the current PC for R5K, which leaves him with R7K.

Either put it into a GPU - 1660 Super (Should be between R5500-6500)
OR wait for the GPU market to calm down and...
Get a B450/B550 board a 3500x/3600/3600x with decent ram and drop a GPU in at a later stage.

Some B450 boards will leave you with an upgrade path to ZEN 3 CPUs in future like a 5600x/5800/5800x
Also note that the AMD CPUs like higher memory clock speed with 3200Mhz being the best value/starting point.

The thing is if you want a noticeable increase in FPS you'll need to do the GPU upgrade 1st and have him save some more money for a board, cpu and memory down the line.

Incremental upgrade would be swapping cpu to a 3600 (or 3400x if you can find one) if your board has the vrm and bios to support it, gpu to a 1060/1660 base/super/ti 6gb, and lastly maybe the ram to 3200-3600 speed. If you're budget is already tight for an incremental upgrade, then getting a whole new pc isn't possible as new components are relatively expensive and out of your budget in the current market.
