HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

It's almost more valuable to find one reviewer whose taste overlaps with your own, than to try compare lots of different reviewers each time. There is a movie critic who has similar taste to me, so when a movie gets mixed reviews (e.g. Joker), I don't go with the average score of reviews of the movie, I check that particular critic's score to decide if I will like it.

So you can apply the same logic to head-fi, theoretically.
I very much get that. My taste is all over (movie wise). Everyone is different, but I do get the appeal of finding someone you can trust (and or with similar taste).

I was really just teasing @SCHUMI4EVER

As a side note: I enjoy Zeos's view - but man, can he just get to the point sometimes??

I also prefer reading instead of a video clip, I like to get to the punchline much quicker. (I can read fast, but I can't watch quicker - even though I've been known to put videos on faster speed to get through them).

So I did something a bit silly.

I did a Black Friday order off Amazon with my gf for a few odds and ends. I threw in a pair of Brainwavz XL hybrid pads, with the intention of putting them on my X2's just to see what happens. When they were delivered to work yesterday though, I decided on a whim to try put them on my Elite Atlas's that I use at the office. I suspected they wouldn't fit because the shape is quite different. But lo and behold...

It looks a bit silly but they are more comfortable now (the Atlas's stock pads' inner diameter is small enough to touch my ears). And I swear the bass response and soundstage are better, but that might just be my imagination.

I can imagine the soundstage will change quite a lot, since the drivers are further away from your ears. Bass might appear to be quicker, since there might be more pressure in the cups vs the the old pads.

Either way, good going. A comfortable headphone is much more valuable than a good sounding one. I love the brainwave pads on ath-m40 at work. So comfy!

Why has no one considered the fidelity X3s? At the current price of 249 (although it was 199 last week, it’s a complete no brainier.

Considered sure, but imports suck so much these days.
If some show up locally in still sufficiently good condition and I have the cash I'm definitely grabbing them.

(though I think I actually want SHP9600 more, or HRs)

I'm jealous now. I've decided I hate the Elite Atlas default pads.

Hay chaps
Hope you all well.
Am looking for a replacement 3.5mm cable for my X2HR's.
Need something for travelling as the 100ft cable is just too long and unmanageable.

Anyone have any suggestions on where i can find a decent quality cable?

Buy a new one for amazon for less than that, unless you have something specific in mind.

I’ve got one, but you won’t source it for R2k. They are very solid, even at the $130 price point.

So I've looked at a couple options.
The Hel looks awesome, probably overkill for what I want but the Zen is probably what I will get.
Can pick on up on amazon for 2k ex shipping or low 3k locally.

Got hold of Francois, gonna collect today or tomorrow.
Thanks bud.

@Nikkel thanks for the suggestion.
Picked it up yesterday.
Wow is all I can say.

The cans feel alive now with this massive soundstage compared to the on board sound.
I think I might get the amp as I want to get some bookshelf speakers to replace my Logitech system and I don't think this DAC will drive them properly.

Anyway I would suggest this to anyone who is looking for a DAC amp.

Yeah they go very well with the fidelios. They only have a line out so cannot power any speakers other than headphones.

It does have RCA out.
Just not switching so to change you unplug your headphones.

Have a look at Zeos's review on it.

Hi hi

I need a new pair of headphones, dont need a mic, have external one so thats sorted

Will be used for gaming, aswell music and videos here and there,

Got about 4 - 5k to get a decent pair, and if there anything left over can go towards a Amp/dac setup which i can add cash towards should it be required.

Looking at

Sennheisers
Beyerdynamics
Philips ( X2hrs only - if can get locally, otherwise Amazon will have to do )

Recommendations welcome, as if it was me would just grab HD599s, but there so many other options it seems

Cheers

Guy on avforums is selling a Beyer DT1770 for 5k.

Amazon seems to be the only option, will have a look in abit

AV forums dont have,

I am keen on HD599s or those X2HRs at this point,
And will prob get a IFI Zen dac amp
Either would be a good choice.
If you do decide to get from Amazon, let me know might want a few small things if you wouldn't mind me jumping in.
