Dt990 life is good.

I'm considering getting a different amp Dac Combo soon.

But so far absolutely loving my set

Unfortunately not in the budget atm to be dropping bombs like that.
Maybe you and @Miz3r could swap for a day and see how you both feel about the other headphones? But I agree with @Deviation, in principle the DT990 and X2HR are in more-or-less the same "class" of open-back headphones. To experience a true upgrade in performance, in theory, you would have to go one class up. Other considerations are more subjective.

Would be easier if we weren't on opposite sides of the country ;)

Hi guys Random Question!

I want to potentially professionally respray my HD800's (think colorware). Do we have any local options like this? The chipped paint makes me sad... And I wont dare do a DIY job.

I was super keen hey until I saw the price after tax and AGS shipping costs. Not much of the old Massdrop magic here if you ask me. It might be an improved HD800s, but when you think Massdrop you think great savings too. I bought the 58X through them (before my HD700 and then the HD800 I stole from you) and that was def wort the cost.

If this was $800ish I would have gone for it.

One must pay the Sennheiser tax.
Also what DAC and Amp are you using?

Currently running it through the Lyr 3 with multibit DAC. To be honest im not planning on replacing this badboy with anything other than the HD800s, and thats only for the paintjob lol (because the sound is perfect for me).

Anyone here able to test and possibly repair my schiit stack?
Getting a popping sound out of the headphones, a while back changing the usb cable from the pc to dac seemed to have fixed it, now its back.
Can rule out my headphones only, dont know what else to check

Speaking of Schiit....

Does anybody here own the Schiit Bifrost 2? Impressions?

You can take it to one of the audio repair people in the area? I can DM you a dude's number that I have used. Not sure if he does DACs but it could be worth a look.

Contacted schiit earlier this week and they gave me a few things to check, narrowing down the problem. Need to just test with new rca cables then I'll know for sure where the problem is. The amp itself works fine, so I'm left with only the dac or the rca that could be responsible

My 4xx finally arrived from Drop. Dipping toes into planer.
Surprisingly they are harder to drive the the 6xx, on fio f11 have to bump volume to max to get anywhere near loud.
Not so with the 6xx.
Now looking at hunting down a balanced 4xx cable.
Sounds awsome on the audiogd

Hello boys & girls. I hope a good weekend was had by all.
I'm looking around for an amp (or maybe dac-amp) that'll add just a little warmth/low-end to the HD58x. I realise open-backs were never going to be bass-monsters but they just a little too hollow on the low end for my liking.

Any (cheap) suggestions. I see there's the rather interesting Aurelia Studio B for sale and that Firestone setup is tempting too, although a little out of budget for right now. Thoughts?

What are you currently using for amp duties?

You're very unlikely to get anything as good as that Aurelia for anything near the price.

The cheapest headphone amp/DAC I am aware of (to buy new locally) is the FiiO E10k for around R 1 700 from C-plan.

Nuprime uDSD?
What DAC component is used in the NuPrime UDSD

These pop up quite regularly and I only heard good things about them.

Currently just using my on-board (Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX). I used a Fulla 2 for a bit and noticed a bit more...more from it, but found it distinctly meh.

I'm fighting off thoughts of buying different headphones to get the sound I'm looking for. These are my first "good" headphones. I have a pair B&W PX wireless too but my Sennies have exposed a lack of detail there.

Z Reviews called the E10k "sterile & narrow" - I don't know how much salt to sprinkle on that but it's off-putting.

Yeah that's been recommended to me before. I'll keep an eye open.

Yeah I don't think the E10k is an amazing amp (although it will likely outperform most onboard audio). It was just an illustration of how good of a price that Aurelia is.

The only thing stopping me there is I'd be using my on-board sound as a DAC, which seems criminal...?

Little Bear B4
If you're looking for warmth with limited budget, that's what I would go with
You can also roll opamps further down the line if you're looking to squeeze a little more out of the amp

Edit: important caveat is that it can't be charged while using it, so probably not a good idea as your main amp

The impression that I have always got from people is that the amp is the main thing that will improve your listening experience, not the DAC. It's more important to have a good amp than a good DAC. Using the Aurelia as an amp with the onboard as a DAC should still sound heaps better than the onboard. You can buy a better DAC down the line if you like.

I have a CTH + SDAC. The DAC part allows you to plug headphones straight into it, bypassing the amp. I can confirm the sound is much fuller, with more detail and a wider soundstage (and better bass!) when using the DAC + amp rather than just the DAC.

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a pair of Sennheiser 6xx from Drop soon. Also looking at the Hifiman 4xx or 5xx. I'm quite new to the audiophile world so I'm looking for any recommendations for a DAC and Amp or DAC/Amp to use with it. Price range between 2-3k, if I can get something good for less that would also be great.

Alternatively, if there is anyone in and around Pretoria, specifically Pretoria East, that could help me out by letting me test their setups to figure out what kind of sound I like, that could help me in deciding what to go for.

Thanks!
