Never really liked the HD599. Quite veiled and doesn't really sound that great to my ears.
For me the X2HR > HD599. If you want the HD599 on the cheap, the Game One from Senneheiser seem to use same drivers.

AD700X, only thing I know about it is the wide sound stage. This can cause the music to sound hollow and airy.
Fidelio is your "fun" HP. Booming bass, but doesn't detract from details.

Bit pricey, but there is a qualitative difference between 200$ HP and over 500$ HP.

Overall strategy in the community is first go for the best HP you can afford.
Then scrounge up money for the DAC and the AMP.

Do you guys know of any deals on the HD600? Quite keen on a pair and I see a fairly large range in pricing.

Amazon seems to be the only option, will have a look in abit

AV forums dont have,

I am keen on HD599s or those X2HRs at this point,
And will prob get a IFI Zen dac amp

No brainer, R3100 to your door

Sigh...I apologise to anyone who got the Elite Atlas cuz I was raving about the them.
The driver is stellar, yes....but rest...ewww. Eventhough I cleaned this as much I could before Christmas (not that I'm great at it) I was reorganising my headphones today and and the Elite Atlas has turned into a fucking toadstool.
I'm guessing @goldfritter is immune to this thanks to his pad swap but the default pads (and the headband) are not ZA friendly it seems...at least not coastal ZA.

In the same time the X2 and K7XX, which I can both clean even less, have held up far better.

Happy with my current setup though. MH751 when I want something spectacularly average. K361 when I want something a little comfier with a little more class. G-Pro X when I start feeling cramped by the K361's smaller pads and slightly intense highs. And then back to MH751 once my ears start wondering what they might be missing on the G-ProX.
Find myself doing this rotation every couple of days now and I'm pretty happy for now.

Would be nice to have something a little more open so I can not be completely oblivious when someone calls me from upstairs, but eh, neither budget nor availability allows for such things currently. Maybe down the line people will start bringing in (and getting rid of) 9600s that aren't completely fucked by covid shipping.

In addition to what @Deviation said the cable on the AD700x isn't removable so a possible failure point.
I don't know about the 700x specifically but from what I've seen/heard the 2000x are treble monsters (without being harsh) and therefore not exactly bassy. A signature which I imagine the 700 carries as well.

Hi hi

I need a new pair of headphones, dont need a mic, have external one so thats sorted

Will be used for gaming, aswell music and videos here and there,

Got about 4 - 5k to get a decent pair, and if there anything left over can go towards a Amp/dac setup which i can add cash towards should it be required.

Looking at

Sennheisers
Beyerdynamics
Philips ( X2hrs only - if can get locally, otherwise Amazon will have to do )

Recommendations welcome, as if it was me would just grab HD599s, but there so many other options it seems

Cheers

Local and actually in stock and they sound damn good, reviewed well and are super light and therefore comfy

Plus half your budget

The new pads on the Atlas's work really well, but it's not really something I can recommend for the general user. It adds too much to the price, and since you have to import them, you are better off importing proper cans anyway.

I haven't tried the MH751s but I reckon in that price bracket, they are a better buy than the Atlas's.

Sigh. They really make me want oldschool Sonys though given Zeos was comparing the driver to Sonys

And yeah I guess the MH751 are better, but they sure don't sound as exciting and they have a smaller driver.

Hoping someone here can help me out.
I've made a post about this before, but still feel like I'm not getting the audio experience I should be getting.

I've currently got Sennheiser GSP 600's, paired with my Fiio E10K. The E10K definitely made a difference, however I still feel like I'm not hearing things I should. I do a lot of gaming, so hearing foot steps / explosions in the distance etc. is super important. On a number of occasions my friend (who uses Logitech G35's) has heard things that I haven't heard at all. I don't know for sure, but surely my setup should be the better of the two, allowing me to hear more then he would? Not sure...

Anyway, besides my audio experience, I am also having issues with the volume dial on my headset. If the volume dial is as a weird angle it'll only push audio out of one side. Little bit of fine tuning and it'll push audio out both cups. I've also had them for 4 (almost 5 years) now, so I'm happy to replace them (if viable). I've been looking around at various price ranges, and styles. The top of my head is super sensitive to the weight of headphones and how they sit. My current headset (GSP 600) are fine but they do tend to get uncomfortable after an hour or so, and eventually I have to adjust the position of the top band on my head.

They're two completely different types and price brackets. But I've been looking at either going cheaper and getting the Logitech PRO X or the Audio Technica ATH R70x headphones (this will be quite an investment as I'll have to get a mic as well). I am also unsure whether my E10K will be able to power the R70x's, if someone could clarify that would be great. The reason I like the R70X is the wing design (less pressure on the top of my head) and the weight (they're almost 200grams lighter than my GSP 600's).

Then just a side note, and my reason for looking at the Logitech headset. Granted he is sponsored by Logitech, Shroud uses these headphones and from what I can tell he doesn't struggle to tell where things are coming from (footsteps etc). So I'm assuming they're pretty decent, granted how he is able to tell where he has heard things and that he is hearing them.

So basically, is there even a reason to decide between the two headphones above, and should I just go with the R70x's? I'll obviously save quite a lot of money by going with the Logitech's, however will that price difference be worth the extra $$$?
Will be E10K be able to power the R70x's?
Not sure if its easy to diagnose via a simple forum post, but why would my mate be able to hear more then I do?

Sadly an audio setup is also only as good as your ears. I've tested the same set of cans with multiple people and everyone has different ranges that they can hear and some don't hear certain details in audio tests.

I doubt this is completely down to this as footsteps etc should be within the overall hearable spectrum, so does puzzle me a bit. I moved from steelseries siberia's to AKG's and wouldn't say I hear less or more in games, but what I hear is definitely more clear and distinguishable.

Help! My ears are broken!

I've just done back to back comparisons between Tidal at "Master" quality and Spotify and I couldn't hear the difference!
Then I checked my Spotify settings and it turns out I was on "High" (160kbit/s) instead of "Very High" (320kbit/s).

I couldn't hear the difference between 160kbit/s and 1411kbit/s - clearly I am an inferior being who shall be forever shunned.
Shopping for Beats on-ears as we speak.

I did a blind test maybe 6 or so years ago. I could reliably tell the difference between 128kbps MP3 vs 320kbps MP3, but not between 320kbps MP3 vs lossless.

I don't want to do the test now again, because I am scared that I can tell the difference, which would mean that I would need to spend more money on audio equipment...

so I want to gauge some interest all while asking for advice

Currently I am rocking the Sivga pii, they are awesome, however, I heard my friends hd600 and well I might be hooked because I miss that sound.
Would someone be down for a trade but also at the same time, would the trade be worth it?

Completely unfamiliar with Sivga brand and their headphones.
It's similar story with other audiophiles I know. We mostly venture in Audeze and Hifimans.

Try posting on Carb, Avforums, AVSA?

will do, avforums to me are quite dead in the general discussions area, but will give avsa a try, thanks for that

I remember a Monolith m1060 going for about 3-4k here about a year ago.
HiFiman HE 560v2 went for around 4k. So I think you can price your Sivga ii somewhere around these price points.

Quite different from the HD800. Just not sure...

Definitely on my bucket list, how are they for comfort ?

At first the clamping was quite tight. But after couple of hours, I got used to it.
HD800 are quite loose and they slip right off if I am not careful, but these stay on.

The amount of detail retrieval between LCD2 and HD800 are pretty much neck and neck.
You can pick up lower frequency better on the LCD2, the sounds are warmer and more natural.
Because the soundstage is narrow you kind of pick up more.
When I go back to the HD800, it feels cold and sometimes unnatural.
But it's the same the other way around. When I go from the HD800 to the LCD2, some of the higher frequency seems unnatural.

Hence my original stance stand:

Only thing I can conclude is that:
At this price point, it really doesn't matter what Headphones you pick up.
They are all pretty fantastic. You are choosing the same candy but different flavor.

I think this is the limit of headphones. Which leads to this fantastic piece on reddit debating about 1000$ Speakers vs Headphones:

Hay JHB forum friends.

Sooooo, this gawd awful bug has bitten and bitten hard.
I currently have the X2HR's and have been thinking of getting the DT990's.
But now my question is, is there possibly a member who might have a pair who might be willing to let me test theirs.

Don't really want to buy a pair of there won't be much gained over the X2HR's.

Don't move sideways, move upwards.
Spend the money and get yourself a Beyer T1 or 1990.
