Hi all,

Recently I noticed that one of my two HDD used for storage only is spinning the whole time and rarely stops spinning, I just use the HDD for game libraries like Steam and Origin.

I dont have any programs installed on the HDD's.
What applications can I use to detect which HDD is spinning up?
I tried to check in Task Manager but cant find anything causing it to spin up.

The HDD is spinning up even though Steam or Origin is not even open.

I recently went the water cooling route to minimize PC noise but this HDD spinning noise is just as bad and frustrating.

Hi,

What software do you have installed on your PC for the water cooling? Some programs have system monitoring abilities (like nzxt CAM). These programs keep your hdds spinning permanently.

I personally did not upgrade to the latest version of windows because the default Intel Rapid Storage driver with any windows past the 2016 anniversary edition caused the exact same problem. Since going the all Asus build route, I don't have that issue even on the latest windows anymore. I don't have CAM anymore, don't have corsair icue either.

HDD sentinel will also keep the drives spinning, and lastly windows indexing can also cause an issue. Hope I gave you some insight as to where you can start looking

Well I have quite a few programs to control various components, I have the iCue to control the H150i, The HX1200i and my keyboard.
Corsair Link is running as well.
Asus GPU Tweak for the 1080Ti.

Guess it could be the iCue like you mentioned, will monitor it thanks.

I had a look while the HDD is spinning to close all applications that I can find open. Including the iCue, Link, GPU tweak. yet it keeps running.
