GeForce now?

So you connected or nah?
Yes , worked on my third try 😛

Let me explain for anyone attempting so they don't run into issues as me

Doesn't work for existing accounts only new accounts so use a smurf email

1) Open link in incognito , link provided by @animehero
2) Smurf email , fake passport number, use a location that supports 5G
3) Add geforce now service in cart and select No thanks just Nvidia
4) Best have your card details saved in your Google cause you need to make payment quick or else it times out and you will get an error about limited numbers allowed to access that service and you'll have to start from fresh using another smurf account

Sorry for ignorance if I missed a comment, but is this a beta for the service?

what was the cost of the nvidia now.
I may have done the thing and maybe possibly clicked too fast

Has anyone managed to play a game on it yet?
Bump.

I did the registration on rain using the wonky passport number, got the email, but nothing after that.
Logging into rain, I can see I am registered for

GeForce Now

Plan: GeForce Now priority
Rig: Premium rig | RTX ON

How do I actually use it?
Figured it out, on the left hand side is the geforce now section to click.

Im in the beta, and can say it's actually really great.

The latency is excellent and really feels native.

The boxes they give you are 3060's and are limited with application control to ony the game you chose to play.

This means no mods, or 3rd party software allowed; not that it's really convenient as it get's destroyed when you end your session.

With some trickery you can escape it's sandbox to a browser, but after the thrill of a speedtest, there just isn't anything to do, if you try execute anything downloaded, it will end your session; which is really solid design on their end to protect their interests and the users from being naughty.

All round I think it's a solid option for folks wanting to avoid the upfront cost of a PC.

The Nvidia app's are great, work well on an iPad and even samsung tv's have the geforce now app.

I believe they use 4:2:2 chroma subsampling rather than 4:4:4, so if you look closely you can probably spot streaming artifacts.

With a decent fibre connection 50mbps+, you'll have a really great time.

I think it's all going to depend on the pricing, here's hoping for R200 / month for the 3060 box, and R400 / month for the 3080 box.

You'll need all your own games, but xbox game pass, steam and epic games can all be signed into, you'll also be able to browse the steam app from within the VM so you can buy / interact with it as you need.

This is not financial advice: If you want to poke around with the steam workshop, i'm pretty sure you could figure out a way to upload your own executables / run your own code in the VM.

Does anyone from the Western Cape have access to the beta? (legitimately)

It seems that they're mainly giving access to those in Gauteng.

What games did you try where it feels native?

Cyberpunk, starfield, CS2 (just messing with bots, not comp), Destiny 2

i'm in JHB, and was connected with fibre via ubiquiti access points, not ideal but it handled it well.

Here's a quick benchmark of cyberpunk from a couple minutes ago, on a macbook with the same network connection.

HDR is available, but at 4:2:2, i'm not convinced it's gonna wow you, local rendering is for sure gonna give you better colours.

If anyone wants to try their tech, shadowplay / moonlight on a windows box will give you a similar experience.

I'll just play local, not interested in GeForce Later at all.

That RTX 3060 rigs just can't handle it , I tried forza , starfield and bf2042 and that system is shitting and farting to run those game
Or i keep getting lemon rigs 😩

I wonder about the wait times for rigs once this launches, during the beta it was great as there are limited users so very rarely had to wait but I can see this being an issue.

Got this email:

Thanks for all the game play. The GeForce NOW Powered by rainbeta phase is ending on 4 December 2023.

Keep an eye on your inbox for news on the official launch date, coming soon. You'll be able to choose a membership plan that works for you to get your game on!

Thanks,
rain

in your personal experience, how was the overall input lag? More importantly, in fps games.

Well I live in Sandton and my latency to the server is 2-3ms, I have zero packet loss and I played on a 50/50 fibre line (Afrihost/Vuma). My experience will probably be best case for this service and yours might be different depending on your distance from JHB and also the quality of your internet.

No noticeable input lag when connected to ethernet on a laptop, feels like playing directly on a pc so this was really great
When playing over wifi on a laptop you do feel a slight input lag but honestly most people wont even notice, there was some stutters when there was interference such as people moving between you and the router or if you move your laptop but they were short and not an issue with the service.
The service on a phone needs work, I did not enjoy as there was quite noticeable input lag and issues with certain games

FPS was what you can expect from a 3060, I could play most games at high and did not have issues, not the most powerful gpu but for 1080p 60fps it will do for the average gamer. I almost finished cyberpunk again and it was very playable, games like starfield suffered that's to be expected with a RTX 3060.

Man cloud gaming, what a time to be alive

R200 for priority and R400 for "ultra," not too bad.

If anyone here has access to gfn from Cape Town, please share your experience with it. It seems everyone outside of Gauteng was kindly shown the middle finger during the beta

Yea if you're not in Gauteng then it's GeForce Later for you.
