Hey guys

Friend of mine had his GPU fan give in.

He was gifted an x52 along with a g12 by another friend of his.

Problem is, his GPU is an R9 380 and the g12 only came with the Nvidia brackets.

Does anyone know where I could get a pair of the AMD brackets, or if anyone has them lying around, so that he can get his GPU working again and play some games again?

Cheers

Best bet is probably to have them 3D printed, maybe check with @Dropforg3d if they can help you find something.

Another option - obviously installing the G12 would be awesome, but for a quicker and easier fix, you could just remove the borked fan and cable-tie a normal case fan to the GPU and run it off a motherboard fan header. You should be able to use FanControl to set a curve based on GPU temp.

3D printing did cross my mind but i "mentally scrapped it" as i figured any sort of heat might deform them.

Maybe I'm wrong though?

There are different 3D printing materials that have varying degrees (heh) of heat resistance. I'd ask the pros what they think.

Hard [enough] plastic won't deform from gpu heat, if it did you would have other bigger problems.

Aloha! Thank you @goldfritter your cheque is in the mail. It will probably bounce though.

@PaladinLaw Please have a look on Thingiverse and Printables if you can see something that might work. We will have a look a bit later as well. We have printed AM4 brackets, vertical GPU stands and many more for Carbonites so this should be doable. If the temps go over 100°C I might have a few other concerns.

Regarding the temps: PLA is a no-go but we in any case don't use PLA for much.
Some max temps for the common filaments:
  • SBS up to 70°C
  • PETG up to 80°C
  • ABS up to 100°C
  • PC-ABS up to 120°C (I've heard, never used it myself before)
ABS should be ample. It is affordable and readily available. We can print it with a high density to make sure it is tough.

Thanks a lot.

Had a look everywhere and can't find the brackets.

We may be taking @goldfritter advice here and just zip tie some fans on for the time being, and then put the x52 on the cpu.

For that however he needs an AM4 bracket.

Would you possibly be able to ballpark quote on this?

Cheers man

That little fellow would be R30. But in honour of @Yusuf.B it will be no charge. You can cover the shipping though.
