So I got a Coolermaster Vertical GPU bracket + riser combo unit and shoved it into my pc.
Looks amazing, but here is the problem.
If I connect the riser to my 16x PCIE slot then it will run fine for about half an hour then suddenly my frames would tank to below 20fps in Destiny 2.
But if I connect the GPU directly to the same slot, everything works perfectly.
But if I connect the riser to my 8x slot on my motherboard then everything works perfectly again.

Has anyone had this problem before? and how did you solve it?

Interesting! I can only assume one of 2 things:

1)Vibration on the cable that is affecting the righthand side (16x side) of the cable.
2)Some 'damage' on the 16x side of the cable, just not sure if if would be on the GPU end or mobo end.

Only thing you can do is try another cable.

Didn't think of that. How could one prevent the vibration?
And would running my gpu in a 8x slot have any adverse effects on gaming?

Vibration - Hard to say with out seeing your rig. Check basics like case not see-sawing if you use a leg / corner as a axis. Use PSU damperners if you have. Also check HDD vibration. When you plug the cable in,on the mobo side, does the GPU retention clip, make good contact with the cable?

8x - no, no effects beyond ~1% which is in margin or error. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2488-pci-e-3-x8-vs-x16-performance-impact-on-gpus

It seems all my pc needed was a bios update and to have all the asus software for the mobo installed.
Did that last night, and tested some Destiny 2 now and it ran flawlessly.
Thanks for the help though souljazk
