Helloo

Has anyone tried out these height adjustable desks? or anything similar?

What would your recommendations be and how has your experience been so far?

Is it worth the steep price tag?

that’s awesome man, do you have the dual motor or single motor and how’s sturdy is it? From the millions of reviews of these kinds of desks the only bad thing seemed to be some of them shaking a lot especially at with a load on it.
I have got the single motor version. There is definitely some more movement on it compared to a normal desk. I have mine loaded heavily with my pc and triple monitor setup and it doesn't struggle to change height.

I have a tekdesk 2.0, which I ended up finishing a custom top for last week and put it into service over the weekend. With the special on the frame, and the material cost of the desk top it came to around R9k. I used a solid wood Saligna laminate and finished it myself, so basically tools/time. The resultant desk is very heavy (around 50KG), as the dual motor frame is built solidly and weighs a lot.

A few notes:
The dual motors have no problem with the weight (including all my junk on top of it) and moves very quickly.
I'm 191cm tall, and I find around 117mm extension works for me (125mm is max).
My monitors are both on arms, and as you've read there's a shake. When in the seated position this is barely noticeable, and in my case, making the monitors touch reduces any shake significantly. At full extension the legs act as very long levers, so any movement on the desktop (lots of weight up top) and play in the legs is amplified. The desk surface wobbles, and so do the monitor arms; I find it really annoying and have to make sure to avoid typing too hard.
My cable job is still unfinished, as I'm still deciding where to put my case. Cable length can be a major issue if you want to put the case on the floor. The frame takes up a lot of space under the desk, so mounting it underneath has a few challenges.
You will probably need something for your feet if you have hard floors (mine are tiled).

Is it worth the pretty hefty price? I don't know yet, but I do really enjoy having the option of standing. I don't think it's worth the R15k price tag on some of their options.

I have the Cecil Nurse standing desk at work and it is 100% worth it! My monitor is too low but I'm waiting for a new one before I get an arm so I can adjust it.

Hey, kinda a necro but I was wondering if you had any more thoughts now that's it's been a few months. Wanting to do something similar for myself.

Also where did you get your top? It looks really nice.

Nothing much to add to my previous post. The standing desk is great and I love the versatility, but the monitor wobble still irritates me. I've got a few plans to reduce/fix this, so we'll see how it works out.

The top is a butcher style saligna laminate from Leroy Merlin: Table Top Solid Wood Saligna Laminated 32mm thick-2400x900mm. I had them cut it down to size for me (I'm building a second top from the offcuts), and then I finished it myself: profiled the edges, sanded, filled the knots/splits, sanded, sealed, stained, sanded some more, waxed, buffed, etc.. I wouldn't advise this route if you don't have the tools (esp. a sander).

Hi @cairbre

Is the wobble really that bad? I also have two monitors on arms and looking at doing the exact same setup.

I have a mechanical keyboard and I really don't want to care about how hard I hit the keys.

I plan to get the black stand with the same top from Leroy Merlin.

Also how much did you pay back when the special was on?

The monitor wobble is barely noticeable in the sitting position. It's only when it's fully extended that it bothers me. This may also be a personal preference thing, since there aren't a huge number of people complaining about this issue. It's probably also a function of how much weight is on the top and how far the legs are extended.

I paid 6.9k for the black frame.
