I would have as I fall under all the lines, but started a new job in Jan (so two employers). The new job and new salary and new tax bracket, helped get me some tax back (submitted, waiting on money) as when that is lumped with my previous salary, I still fall under the previous bracket. I almost didn't even think that far and would have missed out!I do fall under that category indeed
I would still advise taxpayers to file returns even when falling under the criteria because there’s still a chance you can get money back.I would have as I fall under all the lines, but started a new job in Jan (so two employers). If you have anything like medical aid or RA etc, a must do!I would still advise taxpayers to file returns even when falling under the criteria because there’s still a chance you can get money back.
I would have filed if I received an IRP5.
I never had medical aid, retirement annuities etc. and my first year I got R2500 back and it was a straight up submission. If you have anything like medical aid or RA etc, a must do!
I however had neither on my own name before April this year

3 years ago same story and I got back almost R7000.
I'll do my bit and buy rage tickets from you again this year if I miss itI never had medical aid, retirement annuities etc. and my first year I got R2500 back and it was a straight up submission.

Haha this year I told my mates they buy their own tickets. I’m jobless. Only buying my own ticket this year 🤣I'll do my bit and buy rage tickets from you again this year if I miss it
I like it. Feels much more 2019 than the previous one. The whole form did lose my initial edits after I saved, which was strange. But except for that, I don't mind them taking my tax money for the changes. Finally submitted mine today......again , as with last year, selected for verification. Uploaded all the supporting docs, so now the wait. Last year it took months.
So what you guys think of the new look / feel of e-filing ?

I am not scrolling to the bottom to see if this was replied to or not.Anyone tried to file? i don't see my tax certificate for 2019? Anyone else? I want moniesssss
I submitted on the 19th of June...it was open, so I clicked the button. Was selected for Audit, supplied the docs, and got my money on the 10th of July. Less than a month, really impressed, last year it took 3 months as well. Finally submitted mine today......again , as with last year, selected for verification. Nah don't do that. The SARS buggers will find you and tell you that you owe them 30K and you must pay or else. Happened to me, twice, the bastards. Last year they had to pay me monies though.
I fell under that category as I was studying last year and only received a real salary Jan and Feb, so if I did not file a tax return I would not have gotten any money back.
Now I'm getting a (relatively) decent amount back.
But good to know for future reference, thanks.
Umm this is not right. Was it maybe for admin penalties because you can get back that money?
See way back in 2008 I went to register as a tax payer, took all my payslips and IRP5s and whatnot. Did the registration thing and then I asked them if I need to submit tax returns and was told no cos I was earning around 5k per month. Then fast forward to 2013 and I started getting letters that I owe them for returns not submitted and admin penalty fees which amounted to 30K. After a back and forth between me and them, and submitting receipts and shit, I get told I still need to pay. Got that done, eventually. After paying that, I phoned them and asked if there is any outstanding balances and was again told no. Last year I go to submit and lo and behold, I owe them 3k. So yeah. This year I was in the clear, yay.
Just request your APSOA from 2008 to date see what is going on do a request for remission write the story on the third page wait a month and see what happens
Nah, I have no wish to go down that road with SARS, and having to pull out old records. What I paid a couple of years ago I got back last year and this year. So I'll call it a win while I'm ahead.
I got an IRP5 form from work the month before last, went on to check and it doesn’t seem to be loaded? Can I somehow upload the info from the hard copy or do I have to be patient?
OK, so this will be the first year I submit (fall under the category of not needing to submit but want to get into the habit)
Going to register for a username on the eFiling site, but I've got one or two questions.
1)I got my IRP5 for 2019 to 2020 in Feb, do I use that for this submission or do I need another cert?
2) What is the period that you can start submitting a return for, meaning what month does it open and close?
I know buggerall about this stuff, was never taught any of it by my parents so I'm flying blind here
THE IRP5 populates the majority of the relevant information for the last period (1 Feb to 31 jan) & you more need to verify that it is correct.
I really hope people don't take efiling advise from someone that can't even get the tax period correct. Basic google search could have given you the correct period in an instant.
Copy and paste relevant info for the current tax filing year:
For the 2020 year of assessment (1 March 2019 - 29 February 2020)
I hope that helps.
- R79 000 if you are younger than 65 years.
- If you are 65 years of age or older, the tax threshold (i.e. the amount above which income tax becomes payable) increases to R122 300.
- For taxpayers aged 75 years and older, this threshold is R136 750.
