Hi everyone,

Hope everyone’s are doing well.

Got a quick question, I got the following spec pc for free, I know it’s very old, but everything still seems to be working okay. It needs a graphics card and a better psu for starters. Considering upgrading the cpu to a I7 3770, as that is the best the motherboard can handle.

My question is, is it worth investing a little bit of money into the pc and using it for some gaming? Looking at racing sim games, like Assetto Corsa online with some friends etc.

Specs as follow.

CPU: Intel Core I5 3470 3.2ghz 3gen
Motherboard: MSI H77MA-G43
PSU: 450w EZcool
Ram: 2 x 4gb DDR3 1600 standard ram, not gaming sadly

The motherboard seems to be semi okay perhaps.

What graphics card would you recommend, budget is around R3500, or if you know someone with a 2nd hand unit for sale, would greatly appreciate the referral.

I use to be into some gaming Back in the early 2000s, when I was still in primary school, so at least not completely useless when it comes to understand some tech.

Hope to get some feedback from you guys.

This would be my upgrade steps if I were you:

1. Upgrade the PSU to a decent PSU, You can get a good budget PSU 2nd hand for R500-R700 on Carb.

2. With a budget of R3500 you should aim for a GTX1070 8GB in the current/near future market at least, don't settle for 1060 6GB.

3. Get an i7 3770 for R800 or less and SSD for OS if you have some funds left then you have a decent machine ready for gaming 1080P on mid-high end graphics.

Edit: However after going through some combo sale threads on carb and considering it will cost you +-R5000 to get something going with the PC above, I would also advise maybe just buying a full PC instead for example these :

Thank you so much for the great advice!

I could possibly stretch my budget for a couple setup perhaps to around 10k, will keep a look out on the classified section perhaps.

Once again, thank you for the advice, really appreciate the extra effort a lot!

I Have someone offering me the following that will be able to go into my pc.

Core I7 3770
Zotac GTX1060 3gb
4 x 4gb 1600MHz DDR3 ram (2 x Corsair XMS3 and 2 x Hyper X Blu)

He wants R3500 for it all, would that be a fair deal perhaps?
