I recently installed a GTX1080Ti but I'm getting lower fps than with my old GTX 970 which worked just fine with my 144hz monitor.

i5 2500k stock
16gb ram

Like I said, GTX 970 ran it consistently above 150 fps now it hangs around 120 and drops to 60.
Any idea what could be causing this?

I assume the CPU is bottle necking the GPU but I didn't expect it to be this much.

CSGO is heavily CPU dependent, far more than GPU.

There is a launch argument you can add which helped performance. Can't recall what it is but Google will tell you.

Also, why are you running at stock? I ran mine at 4.1GHz all day every day no issues.

lack of a z77 board and decided to fully upgrade instead

Frame drops sound like throttling. Either your CPU or GPU is exceeding either its power or thermal limits. What PSU do you have? What case, and how many fans do you have? Try use RivaTuner to monitor temps and clock speeds for both CPU and GPU while gaming to see if you get clock speed drops that correspond to temperature spikes when your frames drop like that.

It was 100% cpu throttling the GPU, changed to a Ryzen 3600 and getting and avg of around 240-280fps now constantly with everything on the highest settings.
