This is very weird ,before far cry 4 loads i get this humming sound from my new evga 980 ti sc and no other game ,should i RMA ? Other then that im still blown over with the card :) ...

Google search if that specific card suffers from it, as unfortunately nowadays some cards just do, I also know once cards have been "run in" then they stop with the coil whine, however if it doesn't suffer from it or doesn't go away just do it anyways as that's what a new card is about :)

Id RMA.. Coil whine signifies overstressed curcuits. If ur hearing this on stock clocks dont even think of raising the power limit..

Is it during the intro.

Huh whaaaat?! Coil whine is exactly what it is called.... its the coil that vibrates and if it hits the same frequency as other components on the circuit it will start making a noise. Also if it is in the menu it could be that your 980ti is rendering at a very high fps which will make coil whine with any high end GPU. I would only RMA if it makes excessive coil whine whilst in game on a regular basis else i wouldnt be to worried.

I tested now with splinter cell black list for the past 30 odd mins no humming sounds nothing only far cry 4
very odd , will email EVGA and ask their advice , sound is not there in the menu like i stated just before it loads and min i am at menu to load my last save game the sound is gone other then this no other problems with the card :) also max temp card is reaching is 65-66 deg

To me it's sometimes how the GPU is positioned in the motherboard, try reinserting it and lifting the card up when tightening the screw instead of letting the card juns hang.

My titan x had coil whine in a friends PC when he browsed chrome but I haven't had any issues since I got it

Will try this suggestion @Ron thank you kindly , Just sent a mail now to EVGA aswell would like to see how
they reply to this ....The guy-company I bought the card from here is his reply "Play with the card stukkend just jokes , but in general all high end gpus have slight coil whine-noise whatever , also check your PSU '

There are intro videos on some games that make just about every card whine, its unusual but it's common. I've had cards that whine only while a game is starting up, I think dying light was the last game that did that.

Usually if its only 30 seconds and happens very rarely then its not much to worry about but if you get constant coil whine whenever you go into games or something id be a bit more concerned. I doubt they will rma on 30 seconds of coil whine. I stand to be corrected but isn't the 900 series renowned for having coil whine?

I ran gpu z now my ASIC reading is low , will check what happens later when i resit card other then that not worried far cry 4 the land of kyrat is so long gosh , do i need to add another 8 gig ram for stability when i get blk ops 3 currently running 2x4gig ddr3 dual channel crucial ballistix ,humming only happens when i play far cry 4 and that only when it loads lol

ASIC quality shouldn't matter, check the FPS when you hear the whine, it pretty common to experience coil whine when the fps is in excess of about 200..

Theres no humming sound in game i took my headset off to carefully listen ,only when far cry 4 is about to start up while intro video is playing max 45 seconds then gone but will check with fraps what is FPS count and update

If you check the fps during the intro it will be very high, I had the same issue with the same card. Its common for that model at that frame rate. Fifa with no fps lock has the same whine

Thanks, that explains it then, always wandered why...

It has happened on every card I have on the Sims 3 intro. It just seems like a normal thing to me. I don't remember exactly where, but it happens in some other scenarios as well sometimes.

Same thing here. Happened on my first 780ti, also happens on both my current 980ti's. For interest sake though, now that I have a case where the mobo lies flat it is a lot less noticeable.

I reseatted the card 30 minutes ago and tested again its only far cry 4 intro other then that absolutely love my card :) ...

run a bench like Heaven or Valley overnight with the fan at almost full throttle... Sorted it for me. Most cards just need a good run in.
