I am looking at running a cable between the routers, but due to the house having no typical ceilings, I need to run it on the outside of the house. Which brand and type of cable could anyone recommend for this purpose? I would want to do it once and hopefully not have to replace it in a short time-span. I am looking at getting a 100m length, but a single run should be less than 50m.

The one that I saw so far, which I am not sure if it might be overkill or even not good enough is this one:

Any ideas?

I actually just had a cable from Matric that had a short run in the weather of about 7m. Never gave a problem m 7 years. The total cable length was about 30m

I got the R300 - 100m from takealot, got lan crimping tool and some pvc pipe and ran it through like that. No issues for now.

R500 now

Yeah, that's what I'd get. The alternative (which may look nicer) is to use regular cable and run all the outside lengths through conduit. You can also paint the conduit which is nice. Might even be cheaper.
Main thing is that the cable is solid coper and not CCA which is good, especially for longer runs.

That being said, I ran a 20m regular patch cable through my parents' ceiling when I still lived there. About 2m of it along the roof, fully exposed to the elements. About 15 years now, still working fine.

Or if your routing allows, get 16mm square trucking and just pop in there. Especially if you have multiple runs, it will look neater. You can also paint it the colour of the wall. And it might work out cheaper with any old network cable and it's definitely more serviceable.

Do you even need cat 6? What speeds and distance are you going to be putting through it?

Thanks guys! It will be done mostly in the corner below the roof tiles and the brandering. So I don't expect direct sunlight on it.

Thanks for the tip on all having to be Cat6.

In terms of whether I need Cat6, I actually don't know. I am just trying to future proof as much as possible. It will be approx 30m to the first AP and then another 15m or so to the second AP.

Didn't think of that, oh well, cross that bridge later. I'm sure 1Gbps will be just fine for cameras ;)

This was interesting.

Cat-6 cables can technically support speeds up to 10 Gbps, but can only do so for up to 55 metres - even so this makes them relatively long Ethernet cables

Future proof it with Cat6 if its not long term even the outdoor Cat5 will do great.

I used shielded Cat 5 from Scoop:

Been running across the roof for 3 years with no hassles at all. 45m run.

Just FWIW, I got the one in my original post and it worked great.

My network across the house is around 900Mbps with the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD routers in 3 locations. The network were anything from 25Mbps to 110Mbps before dependent on where you were in the house purely on mesh.

Hi Guys, just replying on this thread since its related.

I am going to be running poe cameras and a few access points. Cameras will be all outside on the boundary of the house.

I spent quite a bit on Network cable and purchased Linkbasic CAT6 Shielded cable.

to those with experience in networking, Please confirm whether i have to use this rj45 Linkbasic RJ45 Cat6 Shielded FTP Modular Plug alternatively whether this one will work Linkbasic RJ45 Cat6 UTP Modular Plug

I did not realize that rj45's for shielded cable would cost so much.

Thanks

Na does not need to be a shielded RJ45 connector, Just when you are mounting the cameras are you using a housing or mounting box?
