Hi All,
I want to sleeve my PCI 24 Pin connector and need some advise on how to get the pins pulled out of the plastic housing without destroying the pin or the housing.

I have seen tools available to help with removing the pin and I have tried to make one from some aluminium I had at home... this didn't work to well so I tried making one from sheet metal, which was slightly more successful but still didn't work as well as expected.

So here is my question... to the guys who have done it... how did you get the pins out???

Please don't tell me to buy the tool from MDPC... Firstly I have a budget (which was spent on the sleeving, heat shrink and Dremelversatip) and secondly I want to sleeve the PSU this weekend so don't want to wait for ever.

Thanks in advance....
Cheers

Firstly, get ready for sore fingers, regardless which method lol.

Option A: The double staple method - This is done by inserting two staples still joined and byu pushing them down using a needle nose pliers it "should" pop the pins and allow the it to slide out, a small amount of "persuasion" will be needed.

Option B: Get your paws on a set of needle nose tweezers, dremmel the tips flatter than they are ( just file away till the fit snug into the whole ), this method will test you patience

Option C: Two safety pins - This is accomplished by taking the two safety pins, heat shrinking them together on the springs and top ends of the pins, then grinding the points a tad more flat than pointy as the points will get stuck in the plastic. Then what you you wanna do is push the desired wire up slightly then insert your pins till you feel the two little side arms "pop", remove your cable and sleeve.

These are by no means the easiest or time efficient methods however i found them to work quite well for me.

Also for your molex pins - Get hold of an old RC radio that still uses the long extendable aerial, pull it apart and find the "tube" that will slide over the main pin and "pop" the little pins allowing you to easily remove the cable for sleeving ( found this one out last night and its awesome easy.

Any other Q's, pm me.

well Damin as Zues pointed out with the staples, anything that thin and which you have two of, could work.

you basically just need to be able to press down on the 2 pins inside the casing, in order to pull the wire out.

Thanks this is good advise.
Going to try get hold of some tweezers and mod them.
Will give you guys feedback once done.

The best way I've found is to take two staples, bend them into an L shape (ie straighten one of the bends) and then insert the long side of each L on either side of the pin with the short ends pointing away from eachother.

At this point, the staples are slighty loose in the housing. Next step is to rotate each staple 90 degrees. After doing this, the pin just slides out...

Are you guys just talking about your normal stamples? Or the thicker kind you get on those staple guns... I just got myself a pair of needle tweezers so will mod them tonight and see if it works... I am admittedly a little skeptic re the staples. (",)

Thanks for all the advise guys, managed to get all the wires sleeved.
Took me a while but it was well worth the effort.
