Advise - How do you go about advertising pups for sale? I am aware that there are rules on this forum and there are people looking for purebred pups?

I think Facebook is a more fitting place for this.

There are groups for each type of dog breed and a much bigger pool of clients

The shelters are full.
Why are there shelters and why are they full?

If there is a market for "willing buyer" "willing seller" - All checks are vetted, potential buyers want guarantees that a breeder is not running a puppy mill and is registered i see no reason why people should have an issue with people selling as breeders. The shelters are full because of the people that want dogs but dont look after them. If buyers are vetted there should be no issue. Any breeder with half a brain knows who to sell to......

Because there are drivers that drink on the road we are not banning driving....

So basically then...

If there is a market for "willing buyer" "willing seller" - All checks are vetted, potential buyers want guarantees that a supplier is not involved in illegal activities and is registered, I see no reason why people should have an issue with individuals selling methamphetamine. The prisons are overcrowded because of the people who desire meth but don't handle their consumption responsibly. If buyers are properly screened, there should be no issue. Any supplier with half a brain knows who to sell to...

Your take on drugs vs pets is really funny... thank you for the chuckle

I have never heard of people really giving a dam about vetting who they sell to. They sell to who ever is willing to give cash.

Money talks...
Interestingly the shelters, who don't (really) get paid when someone adopts a dog, often take a much tougher stance on vetting prospective adopters. I've heard of lots of people really struggling to meet standards or even getting rejected when trying to adopt.

That's because most shelters actually give a shit.

People like @Raiden can actually just fuck off imho.

Like you said.
Most there is not moola involved. So the vetting becomes the priority.

For a business money tends to always be the priority and its relayed to some workers like that cause if you dont bring in money you out.
So now will be the same with a person as they need to pay for the roof ens ens.

Yea. All my animals are from either the SPCA, boarding school(I was asked to hold a box while they got in a car and left, box had a wild kitten inside) or FORA. Every time they shceduled a inspection of the property and it takes a few days. Then if the animals need to be neutered of spayed, they do that as well as some shots if needed. I pay the money which was like R1800 for the latest doggy(my bestest boi who is sleeping right next to my bed right now)

I would like to have a rotti one day but besides the cost of a purebred puppy, I don't think I could ever trust breeders to be honest. It's probably unwarranted but I assume that the majority of breeders inbreed their dogs.

Also to add to it. A friend's mother is big into boerebulls and the last three puppies she got died from various problems within 2 years of age. Vet told them all the problems were from inbreeding and all three puppies were from different breeders and came with certificates and all that jazz.

If you want a specific breed, there are often rescue centres that specialise in a specific breed. E.g. if you go on Facebook and search "Rottweiler rescue" you can see if there's one near you.

Of course you probably won't get a certificate, they may not be truly purebred, and they may still suffer from the breed-related issues as you would've gotten from a breeder. But this way you get the breed you like while still adopting a dog in need.

Same, all our animals are rescues.
We also used to foster abused animals and bring them back to health and ready for adoption. This stopped when the one puppy died and everyone was heart broken. Also in the months you have them and nurture them to health you grow a bond just for them to move on to their permanent home. But there's always another one that needs to be taken care of. Always.

If you want a dog there are so many shelters that have them up for adoption.

Just make sure you know the background of any rottie or boerbull you get. I hear what you're saying about inbreeding but at the same time uncontrolled breeding has its own issues.

Our experience going for ones without papers has been three lovely animals that all were euthanised because of hip dysplasia or heart disease. It's horrible watching a pet you love start down that road knowing you're going to have to make the call.

Not saying purebred is hassle free in that regard, as you already noted, but some issues can be caught early going through the checks. Also, happy to accept those checks also aren't 100%. All a bit of a gamble I guess but had better luck with registered kennels.

Just please watch out for FB. I have heard horror stories regarding puppies that go on FB. Insist on details, like address, ID no etc. There are people on FB that seek out specific breeds to use in dog fights 🤬
