Good Day Carbies i need some advice after months of struggling i eventually canceled Rain they where okayish in the beginning but they just got worst and worst on the end so i moved now to web Africa Mtn LTE services but still i get around 30 Mb max speed for the Ultimate package am i expecting to much for a LTE services? i don't expect to get 100 mb always just a stable 50mb is there any other services that i get more or is this my life now lol please note i am staying in a area where Fibre is not a option

It all depends where you stay boetie.

I had a 800GB package of data from Vodacom that I got on black friday for R299 and got like 300mbps where I stay.

Telkom has the best coverage and mtn has the best deals. Vodacom has the best speeds. We don't talk about cellc and rain.

Id say do what did. Get a Prepaid sim from Vodacom and telkom and mtn(I know you currently have that). They do come with a Free 1GB pagake when you buy a new pre paid simcard from their stores or like pick and pay and so on.

Then do some test with the free data you get and see what is best for you.

Mtn prepaid sim cars ar like R1.30 so its a supper cheap exercise.

EDIT:
Ment to say 1GB not 10GB

Maybe where you stay but MTN on average has 25% more download speed than Vodacom across the country, while their upload speed is miles above any other provider. They also provide the most consistent speeds, which is more important if you game or stream.

Are you sure about 10gb free data?? That seems too easy to exploit a loophole....

Have you tried the sim card in another device to see if you get quicker speeds? Perhaps you can communicate with WebAfrica to send you a stronger router, I know they usually ship free to use routers but they aren't as strong. If I was you I would check the connection in a smartphone with 5g and compare it then.

I know 5g routers are super expensive at the moment so find out if they cannot give you a 5g router to use?

I'd highly recommend getting an external LTE antenna, something from Poynting if possible. We have used MTN fixed LTE for a long time before fibre internet become available. I still use MTN LTE as a secondary backup connection. Placement of your router as well as the router itself can make a huge difference.
Good luck!

Hi @The_True_Stefan Must have mistyped as I meant to say 1GB. Some give like 200MB as well.
@Oops!!! That is true. I Forgot to take into account location and so on.

I must say I have a love hate relationship with MTN at the moment.
I have the 50GB Black Friday deal for R199 and I'm using it as an e-sim. I get amazing speeds even when driving 500Mbps and up.
But as an example of the hate is ill try and load a YouTube on my phone or any other internet service and it will be nearly unloading. Then I do a speed test and get like 300 to 500Mbps, Then I go back to the app, and its still extremely slow. Then a bit later it will start playing nice.
I have thought that they might prioritize Speet test traffic over everything else on their sim network some times but I'm not sure if that would be the case.

mobile lte and fixed lte speeds are not the same though. apn settings are different so the towers prioritise them differently, so i don't think that this method would be representative of fixed speeds which is what op is looking for.

@Mr Nice Guy i've used axxess mtn and mtn myhome lte or whatever it's called. axxess was terrible. i paid for their most expensive uncapped package and speeds were eventually less than 1mbps for a while. logged a complaint and eventually had to contact their rep on mybroadband to get some sort of help. speeds only improved to about 5-10mbps at best.

mtn was a lot better in terms of speeds, but customer service was absolutely horrible as expected from them. main problem is cancellation as many have experienced with mtn. best advice is to not use their free router. it is not yours to keep so when you cancel, you are supposed to return it to one of the mtn stores. my experience with doing this has been a nightmare so far and i still haven't been able to get someone to take the damn thing and confirm that my contract is cancelled.

you get given the run around between the stores and the call centres because of the normal 'it's not on the system, you must phone this number and find out why' sort of BS. the problem seems to be that their call centres, branches and courier services are all outsourced to different companies that don't communicate with each other, so you as the customer have to run around between them trying to get shit sorted out.

Heard that afrihost mtn is decent but can't speak from personal experience.
