Hi guys.

I bought an iPhone from a guy on the forum. He got the phone through a Vodacom contract. He got blacklisted for non payment and the phone was blacklisted as well.

However, the phone was sold to me months before he was blacklisted. So it just stopped working and now no longer picks up signal.

I've tried going through Vodacom but they want proof that I purchased the phone...which I don't really have a document proving. I can't reach the guy as his number no longer works.

Anyone had this situation before? Can u offer any advice?

Thanks

First time I ever heard that Vodacom might actually be able to help you with this. Have you tried a different network's SIM card in the phone?

there's nothing you can do, until original owner pays his/her contract. or refund you.

I was in a similar situation recently:(

Tablet was blacklisted because of non payment to the contract that was linked to the device.

The device was picking up signal but not registering on any of the networks.

Solution: Contacted the seller and he gave me a full refund.

that would mean the contract wasnt paid for a while, and you wouldnt have noticed it as you were probably using a different network from where the tabs was originally taken out

incorrect. If OP can proof he bought the phone it will be up to vodacom to sue the seller for the monies as the contract between vodacom and the seller has nothing to do with the contract between the seller and OP.
l_abc_l did you do cash or eft? if cash then download POP from your bank that confirms into which account and name it was paid into. if you have an agreement via PM that is suffiecent to proof you bought it

Hi guys

It's an iPhone 6. Have tried other sims - blocked across networks. The user I bought it from is Boss (not sure how to tag him from tapatalk).

Don't have pop - I paid cash.

I printed all my forum messages: where we agreed to meet, selling price, even the itrader. Submitted it to Vodacom but I'm not sure what's happening- they're not good on communication.

Can't contact seller- number no longer works.

Would you buy car from someone knowing that someone still owes the bank and doesn't plan on using the money to settle with the bank?

Surely this is the same principle.

how do you know if a phone is blacklisted before you buy it?
or even how do you know if the phone was/is on contract?

good luck with that, and with vodacom of all networks

meet at the store of said network where the phone is purchased,
or get serial number and go to said network store and confirm status of the phone.

nou kan julle gramma natzi oek speel.

i know for a fact as i worked at MTN before, a network will not unblock/blacklist a contract phone for a 3rd party no matter what you bring. you will need to go to small claims court with the seller to get a refund.
the network provider's contract is with the original owner not the third party.
have you ever managed to get right what you said earlier?
has anyone ever managed to get it right for that matter?

Has anyone managed to get something like this sorted out with Vodacom? If so, please let me know who to deal with there?

I don't think a person would have a claim anyway. The seller doesn't own the phone until it's paid off so it's not his to sell. The sale is then not valid. **this is assuming the service provider has claim to the phone and not the value of the phone. I'm not sure of the details.
