Hi Guys

I know this is an odd question but I have been tasked with buying a dishwasher for the house.

I do not have a problem spending money but I want to make sure I am getting the best Value for money purchase here.

Any advice or learnings on something I have no knowledge on ?

Also any recommended sites to purchase from ?

Thanks for all the advise in advance :)

I bought this Bosch off Takealot 2 years ago. Although it was about 20% cheaper back then.

Takealot

The delivery experience was seamless and it hasn't given me a hint of trouble in the 2 years.

If you have a family of 4+ people you may want to look at a bigger one (more place settings), but as far as I can tell, the difference isn't major between say a 12-place and a 14-place.

Setup was simple, although you do need to use the included test kit to determine how hard your water is and set this on the machine - it takes a few minutes and you only have to do it once.

It did make a bit of an odd smell during the drying phase but this went away after a few weeks, it's apparently normal.

Important: make sure you clean the filter regularly, ideally weekly.

Defy. Customer services is top and parts are easily sourced should you need replacement parts or a replacement machine
Solid option.

Things to look for in dishwashers:

Noise - some dishwashers are loud af, most people load them before they go to bed on a 3 hour eco cycle and noise might be a concern
Efficiency - water and electricity, the cheaper ones are less efficient
Build Quality - Will it last, buy cheap buy twice
Features - Drying function is probably the most liked feature and only available in more expensive machines

Parts Availability
Bosch makes the best dishwashers i.m.o. but parts are a bitch to find as they are so popular

If you want an affordable dishwasher get a Bosch series 2 or 4, if you want a fancy one buy bosch series 6 or 8

I will personally never by a Samsung or LG dishwashers, they are overpriced

Makro, takealot, Hirsch's

+1 for the Bosch. I got the same one around the same time and it's a winner.

The Vario Speed button is its secret weapon. It reduces the cycle time to 1.5h and still cleans perfectly. It's been a life saver for fitting in a wash between load shedding slots.

Reasonably quiet as well.

Another +1 for the Bosch Serie 2 Silence. Bought mine in 2017, have used it about twice a week since then, no trouble from new with regular maintenance, of course.

A small caveat to this: it works brilliantly but the Vario Speed function uses lots more water and electricity to get the job done.

The ECO/50-degree setting means the thing runs for almost three-and-a-half hours. The sweet spot seems to be the 45-degree 'medium' setting.

I tested this with a cheapo smart plug. Eco mode used around 1000WH on normal speed (3h30) and around 1250WH on Vario-speed (1h25). So it's a bit more power but not massively more. Can't comment on water though. The Vario-speed is also quite a bit louder, as opposed to Eco on normal speed which is very quiet.

We've got an AEG built-in jobbie. Allegedly uses 1,5KW per cycle & 11 litres of water. What I do like is the 65 degree wash setting - I prefer a hotter wash to the more common 50 degree setting.

It runs at least once a day & during holidays up to 3 times a day & has not given any hassles at all. Spares are easy to get (cutlery basket, filters) and inexpensive.

Buy a Samsung, LG, Hisense or Smeg. Whichever fits your budget and has the best warranty. I've got a Samsung 14 place D/W, as usual no issues from the Koreans.

+1 for Bosch. My series 6 has run like a boss for years now. Every single item comes out clean after every wash. And that is on the 50c ECO mode. Even the series 2 or 4 will be just fine as it has the same preset options.

Take the wife to makro and buy the one she likes.

*We have a smeg one bought probably 2010ish and it washes dishes so all good. How are y'all dishwasher experts in here? How many have you had to buy?

I know it's been said plenty but I'll say it again BOSCH! Series 4 they just work well and last long.
MY mother has had one for 8 years not a days kak I've had mine for only 2 years works everyday no issue.
Before that I had kak with Defy then Hisense what a load of shit, Goedkoop is duurkoop!

Defy for me. Definitely had our since before Covid. Our tumble dryer and washing machine are also Defy.

We're on the second tumble dryer and washer now with the first ones lasting around 10 or 11 years.

Dishwasher is our first, we use it between four and seven times a week. Never been serviced and never given an issue. Also, this is really making me feel like fate will intervene now and destroy it. :(

Defy for parts and service, Siemens or Bosch for longevity. I wouldn't even consider another brand.
