Please set my head straight.

The 1080Ti is obviously the faster of the two, but factor in DLSS and everything changes...right?
Not to mention some RT on the side.

If it makes any difference, this will be for 1440p 144Hz

Depends on price... 1080Ti has been dropping like a stone

What games are you planning on playing? I have a 1080ti and my friend has a 2070, he gets better FPS than me in Cyberpunk due to DLSS, but on any other game, I usually get better FPS than him.

Why not go for the 3060ti instead? or sell your soul and get the 3070 :D

2070 by far. DLSS 2.0 etc. is a game changer and works outside of DXR/RT scenarios as well. In CyberPunk for example, playing with DXR set to High and with DLSS (performance) can give you 50FPS+ at 1080P. For 1440P you'd obviously set medium DXR and same performance again for DLSS.

If you don't want DXR, you can just use DLSS and still beat the 1080Ti in performance anyway.

I would go 2070.

So have the 20xx cards. They’re just about the same price now. Extra R1000 gets you a 2070 Super but that’s a budget bridge too far.

Cyberpunk for now, some Grim Dawn, a bunch of driving games, probably the next CoD and Diablo 4...and CSGO...
The 3060Ti would be first prize but R11k is too much for me right now.

Having the exact same discussion these past few days with myself, googling between these 2 GPUs ( im looking for the best GPU that still supports DVI-D because of my monitor). All my research is pointing to the RTX2070.

Newer games are making more efficient use of newer architectures not to mention DLSS. One thing to note is the 8gb vram is the limiting factor in terms of RT performance (RT needs more VRAM for best performance from what I have seen). If you want pure performance fps and don't care about RT go for the rtx2070 otherwise if you do then rtx2080ti with 11gb ( seen some selling for +-10k recently) is a better choice. Even the 3070 8gb is going to struggle with RT in future games due to it's lower VRAM.

So I sold my 1080Ti a few months ago and swapped to a 2070S.

I can say with some certainty that you're unaffected for 90% of games, but you'll appreciate DLSS when it's available. Eg. I could play Cyberpunk at 1440p Ultra with DLSS set to Balanced and RT off. Easy 60fps.

This is obviously on a 2070S, not a 2070, but the perf differences there are negligible imho.

If you already have a 1080Ti it's essentially a side-grade for every non-DLSS game. I expect the same would be true for a 3060Ti but as mentioned, that's not a valid price comparison lol.

EDIT: For the record, you're not going to lock 1440p 144Hz on most AAA games released in 2020 lol. The last game that did this for me was DMC5. Most games will hover in the range of 80-100fps with a select few going higher (and DLSS does help this!).

A 2070 imho would be better, with RTX DLS and most likely warranty i think it takes the cake over 1080ti.

Look I've had both in tests and as @Gouhan amongst others have said the 2070 Super would be the way forward for you. The 1080Ti still has the legs with sheer horsepower in some titles but if you wish to experience Raytracing the 2070 Super is a good budget way to start. I'm beginning to say leave the 1080Ti in the past they are starting to age now like many 980Tis before them that I have owned and have had failures.

Onwards and upwards

with hopes that Nvidia does not gimp the 1080ti, its still a great card! But I'd snatch up a 2070s for DLSS improvements.

There's cases where the 1080ti thrives above most recent cards in some of the older titles (such as GTA V) and then some where it loses out such as in RDR2.

I'd go with the newer tech (only if it is to be a 2070s)
