Bikers!?

Noobs, lol.
I put 55000km in 2 years on my first R1, but I did commute with it everyday.

Tru dat.

I've done 21k km on my XR in a year. It's like these guys don't ride their bikes...

I have a GS as well. in 18 months I have put 25000km on both. I guess I don't ride as much.

However that includes, multiple track days, Sani Pass, Looking to go to Namibia end of the year, Commuting(only 10km to work - so not 40km comuting trips to put into persepctive), Multiple breakfast runs, Road trips to Sabi and multiple other Road trips, I really am enjoying my 2 bikes.

Sooo

I have a KTM 1290 SuperDuke R as most of you regulars know. I love the bike etc etc and it's the best. Completely irrelevant to what comes next but my bike is the best you see ;)

I also have a old Triumph Speed Four(600cc four pot) that is currently being fixed. It's also a awesome bike albeit not as awesome as my KTM.
So I was playing around with the idea of selling it once fixed and getting something different and more "petrol friendly".... though to be honest I couldn't give a rats ass about my bikes consumption.
I thought of the SV650, natural for me as it's a V-twin and I had one before, I then also thought of the "New" Kawa Z650 but I have ridden a bike with the same engine aswell. Then came the MT-07 which is a bit stronger, lighter and almost better in every way to the other two.

My "lighter on fuel" idea went out the door and I started looking at second hand GSXR 750s because why the hell not?
I noticed that they were still hovering around the R100k mark price wise. Then I remembered that the GSR 750 existed and remembered that I wanted one way back because baby b-king and all (which reminds me now, I should try find a B-king :p)
So I went on a online hunt to find a bunch of GSR 750s... I found quite a few but hell, they are cheap. roughly less then R50k....
Why is that? Why are they soo cheap?
That is literally the reason why I posted... Why the hell are GSR 750s soo damn cheap?... for a 750cc anyways.

2014 GSXR 750's and newer still sell for R 100k

2007 GSXR @ R 50k is old. you might have to spend some moneis to repairs some stuff.

Remember 2012 was the last of the Parrellel imports so that qis why they olders one might be less expensive. And given the fact that the finance houses dont want to finance bikes older than 10 years anymore, you have to buy cash.

If i had to buy a Comuter bike right now it would most likly be an R9T they selling for around R 100k and you can still get finance. Fun ro ride and you can forget about chain maintenance.
Boxers are easy to work on and parts will be available for a long time still.

+1 to the R9T idea. I commuted on one for a month or so and they're great. Really feels like you're riding an engine with a wheel attached to each end.
I'll fall off my chair if @D3TTOL buys a BMW though...

Beware the early model MT-07 and MT-09. They had truly awful suspension and you'll feel it compared to the SD.

What about a 690 Duke or SMR?

So I think you made a minor mistake while reading my post.
I purposely said "GSXR 750" and "GSR 750" as they are different bikes :)

I quite like the R1200RS/R1250RS. But you are right I probably won't ever by BMW. Not bad bikes, Just that boxer... the lack of oomph for a 1200cc engine.
Maybe I'm just spoiled having had bikes that surpass the Boxer engine in performance.
I also did think of the Katoom 690s but even the new ones with the extra balance shaft gives you the tingles after a while.

Hey guys

Got back onto the bike after a long break.
Need to get a new helmet.
Where do you guys get your gear from?
I see a lot big places closed down.
I am in GP if you guys have any recommendations?

Moto mate also pretty decent(took over old full throttle in Edenvale)

Using Bike kings in a whil since there name changed, same poeple are there however for NOW, they seem very helpful.

Thanks guys. Busy checking them out. What is a good helmet for a naked? Sound and safety wise. Had a shark speed r that was good to me even after I came off.

Sharks Skwal(+/- R4k)/Riddel(R3k) seems to be a good buy. Don't know of the wind noise, some poeple complain and others don't.

If you have R 8k for a Helmet, i can vouch for the Shoei NXR/GT Air Helmets.
Great quality and wind noise is good for Naked bikes.

The Skwal is just terrible. I bought one and the road noise is crap!

Before you go and buy what the salesman tells you is a top line helmet go to SHARP - THE HELMET SAFETY SCHEME and check out the helmets. i was surprised to find a lot of the helmets i thought were trash were better than some top brands. it pays to do a little research!

Thanks guys. I was looking at getting a shoei as every one says they good regarding noise and safety. I see the NXR is also known as the RF-1200. Who is selling shoei helmets in GP close to Pretoria?
