Hey bud,

Unfortunately all the extras are spoken for in this run.

I might buy another batch before the end of the year, but that is dependant on how well this lube performs for me.

The Everest Max....if had the money I might just have been tempted to return from the low profile keyboard world. Damn, what a board! I could even join you guys by trying out various (3 prong) switches and replacing it's garbage caps.

But no, no money and I still love my G815.

I considered the Everest when it was in early GB stages, when they didn't even have a website. Thought it looked a little suspect, and likely wouldn't hit production on time.

Instead, I went with the CU80 GB Round 2.

Now, Everest released on schedule, and the CU80 is four months overdue with no release date in sight (they say December but they haven't begun production yet).

Why does the Everest Max change your mind? Just because it is somewhat modular?

Mostly that yes. The one other thing I have been looking for in a keyboard is the ability to move the Numpad to the left. I know the Claymore can but it's a pretty garbage.

Unlike custom keyboards which all cut down on functions (or lock them away in complicated key combinations) in the interest of space-saving the the Everest (well, the Max) can do everything any gaming keyboard can and even has software.

It is the quintessential jack of all trades. And I love that category of item, even if the other part of the saying is Master of none.

It has its drawbacks too sure: Not crazy about the aesthetics actually, but the same goes for my G815. It only technically has macro keys, IE I could use those TFT buttons as standard macros, would be a waste, but I could. And on the custom side it can't take 5 prong switches without mutilation. Plus of course it doesn't have low profile switches (though I guess it could if custom low profiles ever become a thing). And the cap and wrist wrest are utter garbage and would ASAP require custom replacements.
Everything else though is utterly thrilling.

Guess complicated for the one is not complicated for the other.

Custom keyboards, are custom. You can literally do what you want. There are many forms to choose from.
 
For me, it is simple:

If a keyboard sounds like kak, and it feels like kak.... Then it is kak. I don't care if it makes coffee. Kak, is kak.

You can swap caps on anything (Cherry-based)
You can swap switches on any custom.
You can fiddle with smoothifying the stabilizers on most things, even some prebuilts.

The only thing differentiating customs is what switches and caps they originally come with and how much you like the case.

Essentially custom keyboards are about the hunt for the perfect case/size footprint whilst constantly messing with the feel or aesthetics by swapping out switches and caps. They can do no more, only less.

Then again I'm talking about expensive as all hell groupbuy limited customs, not the stuff some of you guys are doing with your Ergos. There yes, you can do anything....after spending all the time you could have been doing something still getting ready to do something.

Yea, I think the rabbithole leads to ergo anyway - you eventually reach a point when you realise the silly LEDs and stuff isn't as important as how the thing functions.

Layout, feel and sound and the most important there.

I used a friends keeb over the weekend with stock stabilisers, how did I ever think that was acceptable 😂😂😂

I used a friend's keyboard with 10 macro buttons to the left, which was very important to him when he purchased the keyboard. He literally had to lift his left hand, look at the key he wants to press, and then press it. It was used to launch Chrome.

I then introduced him to the world of QMK. He is looking into getting his first custom now.

I will never be able to daily a keyboard again without a lengthy AHK script or QMK.
 
Anyone know where I can get TRRS jacks/cables? I didn't order enough and all I can find are the loose male jack ends.

Not lus to DIY a cable in addition to the rest of the board

I got a couple of cables off of banggood, but the jacks are on breakout boards and not direct PCB mount (I have a couple at home) I'll try desoldering them from the breakout board and see how it goes this evening
 
rs-online have some TRRS jacks, but the pin-out just doesn't look like it matches my PCB and I'm not in a chance taking mood, to be honest

I think if were to ever join you guys in sub-TKL land then I'd probably go for this.


Damn it looks good. Completely kills my G815 on looks and probably typing feel too but I still prefer a full layout rather than having to make do with FN.

I bet you struggle with the shift button as well right.
