Merryfair WAU Ergonomic Office chair review

Well i'm heading out there later.
Looking at the thw Wau or the Spinnely.

Maybe I'll see what discount they willing to throw my way.
5.5k for a chair is pushing my budget bit time.
Also means no CUD for a while. [emoji53]

Definitely worth the trip, I'm sure you will leave the with WAU, the Spinnely is a tad bit cheaper however I don't see a use for the back rest being able to flex, When you go there you will see what I mean.

Also the sales people are quite friendly, I made it worth my while and was thoroughly jumping and putting all the chairs through their paces 😂

So i was browsing around cam across the Ergohuman @ Makro for a grand less then the Wau and the reviews on it are pretty stellar so decided to take the plunge and get one.
Has a longer warranty than the Wau and a 14day money-back guarantee from Makro.
So all in all, not a bad deal.

Well apparently they tried to deliver at my wife's work place after she had gone home. This was yesterday. Parcel was booked back into warehouse this morning only. and that's where it sits......
A lady I spoke to this morning said she will ask "them" to try again today.
A lady I spoke to an 1 hour and 25min ago said she will phone warehouse and get back to me....

Fast & Furious Couriers.... The ratings online are shocking.
A bad name alone can kill a business before it starts. Who would trust their parcel with these ppl?
I imagine the driver hammering the 2x4 toyota bakkie in its tjops whilst his side kicks throws parcels out the back.

What pisses me off is they never phoned me. We live LITERALLY 5 min from her work.
I would have said hey ekse, wait 5 min, gona drop 1 2 gears and I'll see you now.

To the buyers of the WAU on this thread - how do you rate the chair after using it for a while now? I wanted to buy a Noble Chair from Evetech, but they are sold out. This seems to be a close second, so I want to buy one, but can't find any good reviews as it seems the chair is sold under different brand names across the world.

Also if anyone bought one of the other Merryfair chairs - Spinnely or Motion - how do you rate those?

I rate it as one of the best purchases I have made this year. Just be aware that there is a big difference in feel between the different Wau models.

Ordered the Merryfair WAU - White, full on mesh on 28th May and it was delivered this morning. Assembly was a breeze, literally took 3 minutes. It did not have any instructions in the box, so I watched a german YT video. Been sitting on it since this morning (developing) and can honestly say that this chair will make me more productive. Takes a lesser toll on my body and can actually feel the ergonomic supports correcting my very bad posture... Thus far, I'm very happy with the chair.

This is one of the best chairs you can get for a R5k budget. I have to say that the mesh is surprisingly neutral; not hot or cold... At the end, it is your preference that should inform your purchase decision.

I'm using the Wau Ergo (https://deskandchair.co.za/collecti...ucts/merryfair-wau-ergo-tpe-office-chair-grey) and it's pretty phenomenal. It takes a little getting used to (TPE is weird) but once you're used to it, everything else feels weird. Definitely one of the most comfortable chairs I've used and after two or so weeks, my back definitely feels better and my sitting posture is certainly better.

As others have said, assembly is super simple since the chair comes pre-assembled and you just stick the base on. That doesn't matter as much but the chair feels super solid and the all metal base makes it heavy. I'm +- 100kg and 184cm and I fit perfectly with decent support for my neck and head.

I'm not a big fan of the lumbar adjuster; it feels weird. But I've never really used lumbar support so don't know what it's supposed to feel like.

I'm going to echo the statements of others here, one of the best purchases I have made for my workstation. Merryfair seems to be the original manufacturer, with the chair being sub-branded in the EU and US

So i returned the Erohuman yesterday, 1 and a bloody half hours to return an item to Makro and took a drive to D&C to check out the Merryfair chairs.
Will be either getting the Tune or the Wau - Just weighing up the costs.

ODO has the Wau on "sale" again: SA's best daily deals | OneDayOnly.co.za

Any other feedback from current owners? Build quality, reliability, creaking noises from plastic etc? Very tempted to go for a one.

Does this go on sale often? I've requested a new chair "GoFundMe" for my upcoming birthday. Based on reviews here this is the #1 contender but I'm not keen to pay R7k. Thanks for the reviews all.

I am quickly realising that it's time to invest in a proper chair. Sadly, funds won't allow at this point in time, but I need to really try make a plan.

I have been following this thread closely and was leaning towards picking up a WAU. However, a couple of weeks ago I managed to find a Herman Miller Aeron 2016 model with all the bells and whistles for R4k. Needless to say I did not think twice. After my in depth inspection, handed over the cash, loaded into my car and off I went.
So far, I am very happy with my purchase.
Since getting used to this chair, the bigger problem I have now is that any other chair makes me ache.

I have yet to try any other of the ergo chairs mentioned here so do not read too much into my statement, I am merely referring to standard cheap ass office chairs.

Wow that's an absolute steal! Is it in decent condition?

Indeed it was a deal I couldn't pass by. Albeit I negotiated down from R5500.
Seller had 5 units for sale. I had the 1st pick. So the chair is in great condition. I gave it a thorough clean and lubed all the moving parts 1st day I got it. For cleanliness and peace of mind.

Man, I'm jealous. That's a "buy it for life" purchase for sure.

Yeah, an absolute steal. I'll stay subbed to the thread though. Thanks all.

I was checking prices for the Herman Miller--the remastered version was around 11K excluding vat last year. It's now 15K excluding vat.

Suffice it to say, I was saving up for a decent chair, and every time I approach the price, SA has a way to fuck it all up.

Heres my review of the MERRYFAIR WAU 2.0 office chair
Wau - MERRYFAIR
Merryfair Wau Ergo TPE Office Chair - Mango

WOW or WAU this thing looks amazing, like an art piece, the white exoskeleton that surrounds the chair, and the brushed billet die-cast aluminum base is especially striking.

Wau-Orange-High-Narrow-2.jpg

Assembling this thing was easy it arrived in a HUGE box in 3 pieces, the pre chair, the hydraulic lift, and the base with castors. Assembly time from unboxing was 5 minutes, just pop the hydraulic lift into the chair bottom, press the castors into place and then marry the chair with its base.

First impressions on sitting in the chair AMAZING, the adjustable backrest allows you to fit the lumbar support precisely into the small of your back from there you can adjust the pressure the lumbar support applies to this area. When you get this adjustment right, you can literally feel the stress draining away from your lower back.

The armrests can be adjusted to quite a high position and move up and down on a ratcheting system, the TPE material on the armrests take some getting used to initially, its a smooth but grippy rubbery material that feels hard at first but as heat is applied from your body it seems to soften up.

The backrest is made from a more flexible rubber TPE material that cocoons your back without applying too much pressure. As for backrest adjustability, it allows for either free recline, when you have the chair in this setting as you recline the seat base and the back pivot together so that your back lumbar support never moves out of its adjustment zone. It also allows for locked positional settings as with most office chairs. The recline tension can also be adjusted with a winder underneath the chair, this allows you to determine how much force you need to apply before the seat starts to recline backward.

The headrest is made of the same soft rubber material used on the backrest and ratchets up and down along the spine of the chair. It’s a comfortable piece although I do wish it also had the ability to pivot to fit the curve in your neck exactly.

The seat base, well…...this is where I had concerns, my daily office chair has a padded memory foam fabric seat, this has a rather firm TPE base the material is grippier and firmer than the backrest material. And initial thoughts were …….damn this is hard. After a few hours of working and an extended Apex legends gaming session, it seems to warm up and mold to your bottom which makes sitting on the base for long periods of time surprisingly pleasant.

So, in conclusion, the WAU ergo chair does what I wanted, after just a days use my back pain is GONE. I also wanted a chair that looks really good and stands out from the Vanilla gaming chair/ Office chair crowd, it definitely achieves this. If you are looking for a decent ergo chair designed by an actual seating company that targets productivity by keeping you alert and supporting your frame, then the WAU should be on your consideration list, if you want to spend your days in a cushy lounge chair then this WILL NOT work for you.
Hey guys I'm an agent for these chairs and more. If you would like to come and have a look and try it out you are welcome. I'm based in JHB Fourways.
