Merryfair WAU Ergonomic Office chair review

Desk and chair, have been doing this all week. When the WAU was on special with one day only @R4999 they inflated their price to R6999 and today the price is back to R5500 🤔

I see that. Can't we name and shame somewhere? Make a big fuss. I feel cheated lol

I used the live chat feature on the site and asked them what happened did the price increase overnight from R2999 to R4500 regarding the Motion, they replied and said its an error on the site and the chair is still R2999, so seems like they work hand in hand with One Day Only to try and boost sales to unsuspecting people.

Guaranteed this is OneDayOnly's business model. There is no chance that a shop can give a discount on the normal sales price and remunerate ODO for their "service" with some percentage. The whole "33% off" spiel is commonplace among the Chinese online stores, proving it works. It also works even better if the only results you find when searching online are from the same store, so you can't reasonably compare prices.

I am sure there is some regulation on manipulating the price such that it seems a large discount is given.

EDIT: Here is a complaint to the Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) concerning false advertising of discounts by ODO

Got mine about an hour ago - still mixed feelings about it, so far my back feels great, but my ass and my bank account is hurting.

Should give it some more time to be fair I guess.

Ya I got this bad boy off gumtree a few years back cheap as chips and I've never looked back, it's been super supportive, always been there when I needed it and comfortable and I remember using the back rest to stay warm a few times I was too lazy to go and get a top. I don't imagine TPE or mesh holds heat well?

After 5 years the pleather finally lost out due to extended lockdown usage (went from ok to kaput in no time), but I still can't bring myself to spend even R1k on a new one, it's still the most comfortable chair I've ever owned. And I even tried a noble chair. If you want but hurt.... try that hard rock. But maybe all new chairs are like that?

Wait till you've experienced a nice chair, Makes sitting for long no problem.

I have a nice chair, never ever had an issue sitting for long. And lock down it was seeing 12-16 hours of usage per day without complaints. It's only the finish that is coming off, it's still as comfortable as ever though.

I have had the Corsair T1 Race chair for 2 years now. No issues so far, had to send the chair in once to have all the wheels replaced, but that was almost a year ago. I know my chair probs doesnt compare, but Im happy. i has the yellow one....

Mine just arrived after a long ass wait, but it's broken..
The chair refuses to recline to a normal sitting position, it's stuck as far back as possible. Tried all of the controls and whatever manuals I could find online as it didn't come with anything..
It's a pity as surprisingly all of it's hard surfaces are rather comfortable.
Lodged a return with one day only lets see what happens

thats a shame. I hope I don't have the same fortune.

What area are you in? I'm in Durbanville, still waiting for delivery......

Received mine yesteday (Bloemfontein), not exactly a polished piece of art, but quite comfortable.

You have to release the lock, then push it back with your back, then it releases.

Southern subs, ordered on 27th of May delivered this morning so quite a wait.

I got mine sorted - unlock the left hand level (pull it up), lean quite far back until you hear a click then it unlocks. Swivel thing on the right controls how much tension it has when you lean back.

Super comfortable still not sold on all the plastic, build quality is a bit iffy. Happy though, will have to put it through it's paces

Both of you mention build quality concerns - please elaborate - pictures - we're all looking at this thread to get honest feedback

I went in to desk and chair, tested out all the variants,
For those of you who've purchased the WAU chair off one day only... I hope you've done your research as to what the padding is like on the chair (the mango/grey parts). I sat on it yesterday, and its like sitting on a wooden school chair, however the salesmen did say you get to like it after a while
Thanks for the tip. I decided to go and test them out. Ended up with the WAU with the foam seat.

My guess would be the white plastic - it just looks/feels cheap.

Jip. Nothing wrong with the chair, its solid. Mooi van ver maar ver van mooi.
Big part of the reason I went with the foam+mesh back option. It's what you expect from a chair. The TPU option looks dirty and and was not comfortable at all to me.

Nice! Loving my chair so far.

Paid the price on the website. I probably could have negotiated for the ODO price, but I was feeling generous...

Re: aesthetics: I've got the foam version (base, backrest, and headrest) in white plastic with greyish-blue fabric. Several people have said it looks great.

I went through last week Friday to the Showroom as well, tested them all, I must say preferred the WAU with the foam base and TPE mesh back nothing wrong with the WAU with the full TPE think it might just take some getting used to, however I went there to buy the motion and ended up buying it and leaving with it.

Being using the Motion now for one week and I'm happy with the purchase as it fitted my budget, I prefered the black colour as well as it goes with my room, did not see the need to spend for the WAU although the colour schemes do look good in person.
Build quality is decent, quite comfortable and easy to assemble. Only thing I would of liked it to have is the ability to adjust the lumbar support dept, you can only adjust it up or down.

Only time will tell how long it will last, it does have a 3 year warranty.

Desk and Chair are the Sole importers of the Merryfair range.

Well i'm heading out there later.
Looking at the thw Wau or the Spinnely.

Maybe I'll see what discount they willing to throw my way.
5.5k for a chair is pushing my budget bit time.
Also means no CUD for a while. [emoji53]

So from what i've found is that the Wau is actually a rebranded chair or there are other companies selling rebranded Wau's
Not sure which Wau round it is but yeah.
From all the reviews i've watched they all say its a great chair.

Yeah, I went in with the plan to buy the TPU WAU, ended up almost buying the Motion. It is very close to the foam WAU in terms of comfort, and pretty much the same as the Spinelly. So if you are on a strict budget, try the Motion.
